Job Purpose
Our Journeymen Electricians are responsible for maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, installation and construction of industrial electrical equipment and systems found in an industrial or commercial environment through the proper use of standard wire, MC‑HL cable, conduit, fittings, and hardware commonly found in industrial plants.
Essential Job Functions- Read and understand wiring schematics, design drawings, and specifications.
- Use and care of industrial construction tools such as hydraulic/electric conduit benders, knockout punch sets, cable pullers, meggers, hi‑pot equipment, volt meters, multi‑testers, and ammeter.
- Set and secure electrical distribution equipment including switch gear, transformers, motor control centers, power panels and instrument control junction boxes.
- Install power, control and instrumentation circuits ranging from 24V DC up to 13.8KV.
- Bend, cut, thread, and install conduit.
- Install and terminate wiring.
- Check out and troubleshoot simple electric circuits and electrical devices and machinery.
- Test, troubleshoot, install power distribution and motor control circuits.
- Mentor apprentices with the intent of creating competent future journeymen.
- Participate in daily and weekly Toolbox meetings.
- Basic understanding of electrical circuits and typical devices such as solenoids, relays, motors, transformers, switches, motor control centers, generators, batteries, and lighting systems.
- Excellent knowledge of the National Electrical Code.
- Follow all company, client, safety and regulatory requirements including policies, procedures, standards and guidelines.
- Adequate written and oral communication applicable to standards set by the organization.
Work is performed in a remote Arctic environment with limited medical resources. The employee must stand, walk on level, uneven and slippery surfaces, sit, squat, kneel, crawl, reach through low and high ranges, work overhead, and exhibit normal balance and coordination. The employee must lift 50 lbs. from floor to waist, lift 50 lbs. from floor to shoulder, carry 50 lbs.
for 15 feet, push/pull 60 lbs. sled for 20 feet, and push/pull 90 lbs. cart for 20 feet. Driving and climbing scaffold, ramps, stairs and portable ladders are required.
- Four (4) years of field experience through an accredited apprenticeship program, or an associate degree in electrical technology may be substituted if the industrial electrical experience requirement is met.
- Current and valid Alaska State Fitness Certificate as a Journeyman Electrician.
- Employee will provide his/her own tools.
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Valid driver's license and the ability to be covered by Worley’s auto insurer.
- North Slope Training Cooperative (NSTC) certification. Worley can provide certification training if needed.
