Ferry Terminal Agent 1

The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), Alaska Marine Highway System, is looking for a Ferry Terminal Agent 1 to help us Keep Alaska Moving!

In this role, you will work with a fun, team-oriented office and provide support to staff, Alaskan customers and tourists visiting. Including tying and untying vessels, operating the hydraulic ramp, using a computerized reservation system, printing tickets for passengers, and staging vehicles for loading. This position will give you the tools and knowledge you will need to advance with AMHS and help you to achieve your long-term career goals.

The working environment you can expect:
This position located in Wrangell, Alaska. This is a shoreside office position at 301 McCormick Street, Wrangell, AK 99929. Wrangell is a southeast Alaskan town with an economy focused on the fishing industry and tourism. In joining our team, you will meet Alaskans from all over the state, work in a team environment, and assist tourists from all over the world.

  • Alaska Driver`s License - Alaska Statutes, Title 28
  • Transportation Worker Identification Credential (allowing employee presence within federally defined Restricted Areas to perform security duties and vessel support functions such as line handling)- 33 CFR, Part 105 and US Coast Guard NVIC 03-07

One year of experience performing any combination of duties that included significant contact with customers or the general public in order to provide information and assistance concerning services offered and their relevant policies and procedures, receiving payments and related cash handling, answering and directing phone inquiries, data entry and retrieval, maintaining computerized files and records, and/or ensuring the safety of people and property.

Examples of qualifying experience include, but are not exclusively limited to, sales cashiers, bank tellers, food service wait staff, travel agents, security staff, or crew on commercial passenger vessels.

The work environment requires incumbents of all positions in this job class have the physical ability to lift and carry heavy weights, work in inclement weather, and work on docks and catwalks above cold water.

Terminal business hours and staff schedules are determined and/or adjusted based on varying AHMS vessel sailings and may be subject to change with minimal advanced notice. Incumbents may be required to work fluctuating schedules, split shifts, and/or be available to report any time for work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (including holidays), in order to respond to port calls as needed.

Some positions in this class may require the incumbent to operate motor vehicles. Such positions require that the applicant possess a regular driver's license and be 18 years of age or older.
