As we continue to grow, we are seeking a highly skilled Master Technician / Senior Diagnostic Technician to become a key member of our workshop team and help maintain the high standards our customers have come to expect.
PurposeThe Master Technician / Senior Diagnostic Technician will serve as the workshop's leading technical expert, responsible for diagnosing complex vehicle faults, supporting technicians with difficult repairs, and helping maintain exceptional repair quality.
This role works closely with the Workshop Foreman, technicians, service advisors, and management to ensure vehicles are repaired safely, efficiently, and correctly the first time.
Key Responsibilities Advanced Diagnostics- Diagnose complex electrical, mechanical, and electronic faults.
- Conduct advanced fault-finding using diagnostic equipment.
- Interpret technical data, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer information.
- Support technicians with difficult diagnostics and repairs.
- Identify root causes rather than simply replacing components.
- Perform advanced repairs on:
- Engine systems
- Gearboxes and transmissions
- Electrical systems
- Vehicle networks
- Steering and suspension systems
- Brake systems
- Hybrid and EV systems (if qualified)
- Carry out manufacturer-standard repair procedures.
- Coach and mentor technicians and apprentices.
- Share technical knowledge and best practices.
- Support the development of future senior technicians.
- Assist with technical training and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure repairs meet Johnny's Garage quality standards.
- Verify diagnostic accuracy before major repairs are authorized.
- Assist with quality assurance procedures.
- Help maintain a comeback rate below company targets.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience as a Vehicle Technician.
- Advanced diagnostic experience (any certification would suffice).
- Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding ability.
- Good background in using modern diagnostic equipment.
- Level 3 Motor Vehicle Qualification (or equivalent).
- Manufacturer diagnostic training.
- MOT Tester License.
- Hybrid and Electric Vehicle qualifications.
