Quality Assurance Lab Technician
Location:
1609 Biddle Avenue, Wyandotte, MI 48192 (100% onsite)
Shift: 7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m. (12‑hour shifts rotating every other week; some weekend work with alternate weekend off).
Hours:
36 h one week, 48 h the next.
Employment Type:
Contract – 3 months
Pay Range: $22.00 – $23.50 per hour
Responsibilities- Support Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) laboratory operations on a temporary basis.
- Perform physical, chemical, and mechanical testing on in-process and finished TPU products according to established testing plans and methods.
- Conduct MFI, physical, and chemical testing on samples from production.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, including extruders and injection‑molding equipment used to prepare test specimens.
- Record, review, and enter test results accurately into electronic systems such as SAP, LIMS, or other laboratory databases.
- Release laboratory data in a timely manner to support manufacturing operations.
- Perform routine equipment checks, calibration verification, and preventative maintenance activities.
Investigate, document, and escalate out‑of‑specification results according to established procedures. - Support production teams in resolving quality‑related issues.
- Assist with laboratory documentation updates, continuous‑improvement activities, and process standardization efforts.
- Evaluate color and appearance properties using laboratory instrumentation, including spectrophotometers.
- Maintain laboratory cleanliness and organization in accordance with established standards.
- Follow all safety procedures, work instructions, and regulatory requirements.
- Minimum of High‑School Diploma or GED.
- At least 1 year of manufacturing, quality, or laboratory experience.
- Basic understanding of chemistry, mathematics, and statistical concepts.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment.
- Strong organizational, problem‑solving, and analytical skills.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.
- Willingness to learn laboratory testing methods, equipment operation, and quality systems.
- Regular attendance and punctuality are required.
- Ability to work 12‑hour rotating day and night shifts, including weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Frequent walking, standing, and stair climbing between laboratory and manufacturing areas.
- Work primarily in laboratory and pilot‑scale manufacturing environments.
- Potential exposure to chemicals, heat, noise, fumes, and airborne particles consistent with a manufacturing laboratory setting.
- Visual ability to read, interpret, and document laboratory data and test results.
