Assistant Professor in ESL
JOB PURPOSE:The College of Education at the University of Wyoming invites applications for a 9-month, full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor of English as a Second Language (ESL) within the School of Teacher Education, to begin Fall 2026.
This position carries responsibilities in teaching, scholarship, advising, and service. The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate and graduate educator preparation programs, maintain an active and sustainable program of scholarship, and engage in service that supports the mission of the School, College, University, and the State of Wyoming.
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses, through both in-person and online modalities in English as a Second Language and closely related areas.
- Mentor and advise undergraduate and graduate students, including coordination of practicum, internships, and other field-based experiences.
- Contribute to curriculum development and revision, assessment, and continuous improvement of ESL and teacher preparation programs.
- Develop and sustain an independent and productive programs of scholarly activity consistent with College and University expectations for tenure and promotion.
- Disseminate scholarship through peer-reviewed publications and professional presentations in ESL, TESOL, applied linguistics, or related fields.
- Pursue scholarly activities that support professional growth and meet expectations for tenure and promotion under UW Regulation 2-7.
- Participate in service activities at the program, School, College, and University levels.
- Contribute to educator preparation program review and reporting, including preparation and revision of program review reports for the Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board (PTSB).
- Engage in professional service appropriate to rank, including participation in professional organizations and collaboration with PK-12 partners and community stakeholders.
- Support accreditation, assessment, and governance activities as assigned and as appropriate to rank.
- Maintain appropriate on-campus presence and active engagement in faculty meetings, consistent with university and college expectations.
- Earned doctorate (PhD or EdD) in English as a Second Language, TESOL, Applied Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition, or a closely related field by the date of appointment.
- Demonstrated experience teaching multilingual learners in PK–12 public schools or closely related educational settings.
