POSITION SUMMARY
The School Counselor (Grades 6-12) provides a comprehensive, data-informed school counseling program that supports students' academic achievement, social-emotional development, career exploration, and postsecondary readiness. The counselor collaborates with students, families, staff, and community partners to ensure students are prepared to successfully transition to their next steps-whether college, career, military service, apprenticeships, or other pathways.
The counselor promotes a safe, inclusive, and positive school culture and supports district initiatives aligned with Wyoming Department of Education requirements and district priorities.
QUALIFICATIONS
* Valid or eligible for Wyoming certification through the Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board with endorsement as a K-12 School Counselor.
* Knowledge of adolescent development (grades 6-12).
* Understanding of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) for academics and behavior.
* Experience or training in trauma-informed practices and school-based mental health support preferred.
* Demonstrated ability to analyze and use student data to inform programming and interventions.
* Knowledge of community-based partnerships and ability to collaborate effectively with local agencies, businesses, and service providers.
* Experience supporting Career and Technical Education (GTE) pathways and work-based learning opportunities for students.
* Such additional qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Provides short-term individual and small group counseling to support student growth and well-being.
* * Provides counseling support for students with IEPs and 504 Plans consistent with educational goals and accommodations.
* * Collaborates with special education staff to support students in developing self-advocacy, coping, and executive functioning skills.
* * Identifies students in need of additional services and coordinates referrals to appropriate school or community resources.
* * Participates in crisis response, threat assessment, suicide prevention efforts, and safety planning as required.
* * Maintains appropriate role boundaries consistent with the function of a school counselor.
Student Advocacy & Equity
* Advocates for students in academic, behavioral, and postsecondary planning discussions.
* Promotes equitable access to rigorous coursework, GTE pathways, extracurricular activities, and advanced opportunities.
* Works to remove barriers to student achievement and engagement.
* Supports efforts to reduce dropout rates and increase on-time graduation.
Assessment, Testing & Data Support
* Assists with coordination and communication related to state and local assessments.
* Supports students and families in understanding assessment results.
* Uses student performance data to identify trends and inform interventions.
* Collaborates with staff in interpreting data to guide instructional and support decisions.

EVALUATION
Performance will be evaluated annually by the Building Principal in collaboration with the Special Services Director in accordance with district evaluation procedures.
