Summary

A Head Teacher provides leadership, management, and supervisory skills that promote learning for each student while maintaining a teaching role in a classroom. They stand for the ideas and values that help develop globally competent citizens and act as stewards for learning—student, staff, and parent learning. They provide a clear vision, inspiration, energy, and insight for all stakeholders in an enlightening and high‑functioning school community.

They are attentive to habits of mind, data‑driven decision‑making, the change process, accountability, conflict resolution, team building, and a well‑organized school. They guide day‑to‑day operations to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of all students, staff, and families. Head Teachers orchestrate a complex, dynamic, and collaborative learning community where students and student learning are always the central focus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Administration
  • Develop an organizational plan that utilizes all staff and students in a cooperative learning environment, designating responsibility for implementing the school’s programs and functions.
  • Ensure proper supervision is maintained and all requirements for successful programming are in place.
  • Fully implement district policies, procedures, and regulations at the school.
  • Continuously evaluate all programs and expenditures to assess educational value, using these evaluations to govern recommendations and school management.
  • Supervise preparation of all reports for the school, district, and state office.
  • Visit classes regularly to evaluate policy effectiveness and participate in improvement planning.
  • Evaluate personnel to assure accountability as required under Wyoming Statutory law.
  • Safeguard the health and well‑being of staff and students, making prudent decisions during emergencies and reporting to the Superintendent promptly.
  • Ensure buildings and grounds are properly cared for, maintained, and secured when not in use.
  • Plan and supervise fire, tornado, and lockdown drills; update crisis plans yearly with coordinators.
  • Coordinate maintenance, transportation, and food service operations for a conducive learning environment.
  • Handle all school complaints with positive interaction skills, investigate, and refer unsatisfactory cases to the Superintendent. Redress legitimate grievances where possible.
  • Notify parents when long‑term substitutes are used.
  • Coordinate student‑teacher placement with universities.
  • Provide guidance on intervention programs at appropriate need levels.
  • Assist in orientation, training, and in‑service for staff members.
  • Hold faculty meetings, set agendas, and preside with opportunities for staff leadership.
  • Actively seek and utilize staff input in decision‑making regarding school operations and procedures.
  • Implement the district’s mentoring program for all new teachers as assigned.
Teaching
  • Develop lesson plans that meet established school and national curriculum models.
  • Adapt and reassess lesson plans to meet specific student needs, comply with new guidelines, and incorporate relevant developments.
  • Adapt curriculum to fit individual student needs while maintaining overall class progress.
  • Use a variety of educational resources, instructional materials, and technology to enhance instruction.
  • Assess and record student development, identifying strengths and weaknesses.
  • Maintain a safe, respectful, and positive learning environment, promoting safety and compliance with school rules.
  • Coordinate paraprofessional duties with the SPED department and accommodate modifications per student IEPs.
  • Communicate with parents regularly, providing student progress reports that include both positive and negative behaviors.
  • Participate in professional activities and continuing education that enhance the mission and goals of the school/district.
