- Salary: $18.47 to $20.18 per hour
The job of Instructional Assistant – Library Media Teacher Assistant is to maintain library collections at school sites; identify age-appropriate resources for students and teachers; select appropriate items to support classroom instruction; and perform clerical functions related to collection, processing, circulation, maintenance, and inventory of library materials and/or textbooks. This position reports to the Librarian.
Essential Functions- Assist teachers, students, and administrators in identifying resource materials for classroom and class assignments.
- Evaluate books and/or periodicals for retention, repair, or retirement to ensure availability of materials.
- Maintain materials inventory for library books, hardware/software, media equipment, and other instructional materials.
- Monitor student activities to maintain a safe learning environment.
- Oversee student aides/volunteers in the library, providing orientation, training, and ensuring completion of assignments.
- Perform circulation activities such as check‑in/check‑out, prepare circulation count, overdue lists, etc.
- Prepare computerized and manual reports (collection statistics, scheduling requests, renewal info, overdue lists, textbook orders, fines, costs).
- Process library books, periodicals, software, and media materials (log into master files, barcode, shelve, duplicate media).
- Process new student library cards and handle notices of missing, damaged, or overdue items; secure reimbursement for losses.
- Respond to inquiries of students, staff, and parents regarding availability, reference documents, overdue fines, etc.
- Assist other personnel as needed to ensure an efficient and effective work environment.
Minimum Qualifications
- Skills: Operating standard office equipment and software applications; preparing and maintaining accurate records.
- Knowledge: Basic math calculations; reading manuals; writing documents; understanding library practices, terminology, and procedures; age-appropriate literature; computer and internet operations; grammar and punctuation.
- Abilities: Scheduling activities/meetings; gathering/collating data; operating job‑related equipment; flexibility; problem solving; establishing effective working relationships.
- Experience: Job related experience desired.
- Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
- Clearances: Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling; stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling; fine finger dexterity. Work involves 20% sitting, 20% walking, 60% standing. Environment is generally clean and healthy.
