Bechtel is the licensing, engineering, procurement, and construction partner on Terra Power’s Natrium team. Selected by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for its Advanced Reactor Demonstration Program, Natrium is participating in a DOE initiative to re-establish U.S. leadership in nuclear energy that provides matching funding to industry to design and build an operational advanced reactor. Terra Power, a leading advanced generation technology company founded by former Microsoft CEO Bill Gates, will be deploying its 345 MWe sodium fast reactor (SFR), called Natrium.

The Natrium plant features an advanced, cost-competitive reactor design that is safer, simpler, easier, less costly to construct, less expensive to operate, and able to provide energy that is competitive with fossil fuels. It also features an innovative molten salt energy storage system designed to be complementary to solar and wind power by evening out the peaks and valleys in production when the sun is not shining, or the wind is not blowing.

With the reactor and energy storage output combined, the plant can produce more than 500 MWe of power.

The Electrical Field Engineer is responsible for activities relating to construction engineering within the electrical discipline. Duties include interpreting electrical design drawings and specifications, cable installations and terminations, field verification of materials, and technical direction to field personnel as required. This position will be responsible for a variety of construction tasks utilizing nuclear and industrial codes and standards related to raceway/cable tray, cable, and electrical equipment installations.

This position is not considered the design authority for the project, but only to enforce electrical construction per design. This position requires good planning and organizational skills, ability to perform detailed inspections, and the ability to produce accurate, clear, and concise documentations.

• Coordinate with engineering on constructability and design issues relating to the electrical discipline such as installation and testing of electrical systems, lighting systems, high voltage equipment, grounding, lightning protection, and fire detection systems.
• Establish an electrical design/field engineering working relationship and lines of communication with the Engineer of Record, including agreement on electrical engineering deliverables and overall construction application configuration management.
• Coordinate with the Procurement Organization for field procured materials, material substitution, services and equipment including panels, motors, and switch gear.
• Review material receiving reports and warehousing to assure delivery of correct electrical materials.
• Coordinate and monitor the interfaces for electrical data exchange to support the construction automation plan and the project controls program requirements at the jobsite.
