Leads construction engineers in a broad range of construction engineering work within a specific engineering discipline for a particular area of the project. Provides engineering assistance to superintendents, directs assigned personnel in meeting cost and time schedules, verifies materials, equipment, and quality and assures results meet design requirements. On a large project, functions as a lead discipline engineer, coordinating related discipline activities and interfacing with other areas/disciplines on the jobsite.
On a small to medium-sized project, performs the duties of a lead engineer in an area, coordinating and directing a variety of disciplines, or performs the duties as a Project Field Engineer or Project Field Quality Control Engineer coordinating activities related to the operation of the assigned operating section of the jobsite.

- Implement and maintain Bechtel Field Welding program.
- Provide specialized welding engineering support for construction to ensure construction meets all code and Bechtel procedures.
- Provide technical expertise for ASME, API, and AWS or other code designed and fabricated items.
- Responsible to manage pre- and post-weld heat treatment program whether self- performed by Bechtel or subcontractors.
- Responsible to manage rod room and rod room attendant to ensure all weld filler materials are controlled and meet Bechtel and Code requirements.
- Responsible to manage the NDE subcontract to include scheduling and coordinating with construction and subcontract for the best possible shooting schedule at the least cost and least impact to construction.
- Responsible to manage and monitoring welder qualification test lab to ensure high quality welders are being properly tested and hired.
- Work with Supervisors, Foreman, and craft so to maintain weld documents and ensure the credibility/accountability of the Welding Program.
- Responsible to manage issues and maintain welder qualifications and welder stamps. Able to work extended work schedules and night shift as required to support the project execution plans and schedules
- Provides leadership and takes personal accountability for site safety, environmental and health program
- Participates in Project Chromium Material Assessments, and Hex Chrome mitigation activities
- Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering and 12 years' experience or equivalent experience, 14 years welding and heavy construction related experience.
- More than 12 years' experience minimum experience in field welding engineering relating to heavy construction industry, Fossil, Nuclear.
- Must have minimum of 2 years previous experience as a Bechtel Lead Field Welding Engineer.
- Working knowledge of current industry quality construction procedures and standards.
- Must be computer literate in Microsoft word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
- Must have the right to work and remain in the United States.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain unescorted site access
- Must have a valid U.S. Driver's License
- Must be able to climb ladders and be able to handle the wearing of protective clothing from contamination.
- Prior experience with Nuclear Power plants, DOE or DOD projects.
- Prior U. S. Government construction experience in a supervisory role.
- Experience with, or exposure to Bechtel innovations such as the X-fighters, Smart Completions, Advanced Work Packaging (AWP), and/or DEP.
