The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is committed to providing a safe, high-quality, and efficient transportation system for the State of Wyoming. As a Highway Maintenance Technician, you will perform a variety of roadway maintenance duties under limited supervision to help ensure safe and reliable travel for the public.

Essential Functions- Maintains and operates complex equipment safely and proficiently
- Assists with training other technicians in the operation and maintenance of equipment
- Under limited supervision, flags traffic and sets up traffic control devices
- Operates heavy equipment, including, but not limited to: single and tandem axle trucks, equipped with an auger, aerial lift equipment, or equipped with plows, wing plows, sanders, and chemical systems to remove snow and ice from roadway surface
- Responsible for the rehabilitation of roadway surfaces and/or traffic control devices such as signs and pavement markings
- Responsible for general maintenance of highway-related facilities such as rest areas; this may include performing water and wastewater treatment according to EPA and DEQ requirements
- Attends and completes all state and federal training required to obtain/maintain certifications, perform inspections, and learn new skills
- Communicates information in order to update others' status and/or process effectiveness
- Utilizes computers for agency practices, such as for training and performance evaluations, and keeps up to date on technological advances with specialized equipment
- Performs duties involved in removing snow and ice from roadways; determines the effectiveness of treatments and may determine when a change in treatment is necessary
- Responsible for adhering to all state and federal safety and quality standards, including the correct use of all associated personal protective equipment
- Preference may be given to applicants who have a current Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements prior to employment.
- Must have the ability to obtain water certifications if necessary.
- Must have the ability to obtain a Certification to operate specified equipment as directed by WYDOT.
- Must have the ability to obtain a Certificate of course completion in Defensive Driving.
- Must have the ability to obtain a First Aid/CPR certification.
- Must have the ability to obtain a Flagger certification.
- Knowledge of state highway pavement marking and signing standards
- Knowledge of state and federal highway safety standards and traffic control procedures
- Knowledge of equipment maintenance and repair procedures.
- Knowledge of hazardous materials response procedures
- Knowledge of federal and state requirements for the proper use of personal protective equipment
- Knowledge of basic equipment operation for single and tandem-axle trucks, loaders, and tractors
