Position Purpose
This position is located at Laramie River Station in Wheatland, WY. This position is open to varying levels of experience. This entry‑level engineering position assists in gathering and evaluating data on power‑plant system components, recommends operational or design changes to improve plant efficiency, and coordinates activities associated with plant modification projects as assigned.
Essential Duties- Analyze the need for plant improvements, and design and coordinate implementation of changes to mitigate equipment failure by employing reliability‑engineering processes.
- Assist plant engineering staff in completing studies to improve equipment reliability, including utilizing computer programs, collecting and evaluating test data, and preparing and reviewing technical information.
- Work with plant operations and maintenance personnel to evaluate system performance and generate improvement plans.
- Evaluate key performance indicators and operational data from maintenance programs to determine effectiveness on reliability and availability.
- Utilize computer equipment and vibration data‑collection instruments to diagnose problems in plant equipment.
- Assist in updating plant engineering drawings and documents.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- A bachelor’s degree from an EAC/ABET‑accredited Mechanical Engineering program.
- A valid driver’s license.
- Field‑related engineering exposure.
This position requires frequent sitting and lifting/carrying up to 25 pounds; occasional standing/walking, bending, reaching, kneeling, climbing, crawling and pushing/pulling up to 15 pounds and lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds. It requires use of a keyboard/computer, and occasional work at heights up to 250 feet with safety equipment in accordance with ANSI Z359 standards. The applicant must have good finger dexterity, hand coordination, hearing and vision.
The incumbent may occasionally work in confined spaces and be exposed to extreme heat/cold, dirt, fumes, chemicals, vibration, and noise. Tools/equipment used include floating pick scaffolding, vibration testing equipment, velocity measuring probes, electronic thickness testers, slag hammer, computer equipment and surveying equipment. Must be respirator qualified.
- Knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
- Good organizational skills, technical writing, and excellent verbal and written communication, creative problem‑solving, and ability to interface with plant personnel.
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and personal computers.
- Ability to analyze data/reports, conduct research, implement recommendations, coordinate projects, develop plans, present information, and work under pressure.
