General Description
The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is dedicated to delivering a safe, high-quality, and efficient transportation system for the State of Wyoming. We are currently seeking a qualified and motivated OSHA Specialist to support and enhance our commitment to workplace safety.
This position plays a critical role in coordinating with WYDOT’s Employee Safety Program to ensure district employees are properly trained and consistently adhere to all agency safety policies and procedures, as well as applicable state and federal safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate and support WYDOT’s Employee Safety Program initiatives
- Ensure compliance with WYDOT safety policies and state and federal regulations
- Develop, deliver, and evaluate both formal and informal safety training programs
- Certify employees in required safety procedures and standards
- Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement across district operations
This position is based in Basin, Wyoming, a historic community established in 1896 and known today as the “Lilac City.” Located in the heart of the Bighorn Basin and near the Bighorn Mountains, Basin offers a wide range of outdoor recreational opportunities, including camping, fishing, hunting, hiking, skiing, ATV riding, and more.

- Ensures employees attain and apply all aspects of personal and workplace safety.
- Collaborates with WYDOT supervisors and department management.
- Takes proactive steps through site visits and incident investigations to ensure district employees are applying personal and workplace safety.
- Collaborates with district facilities coordinator on annual informal inspections of all the district’s facilities to ensure all safety compliance are utilized.
- Completes inspection reports and tracks documented deficiencies and corrective actions.
- Provides on‑the‑job training during routine and special surveys for inspections.
- Provides technical assistance and training to ensure any identified hazards are corrected.
- Assists with review of current safety policies and procedures, including current program/crew safety programs.
- Attend and support crew and job site safety meetings.
- Prepare training materials and training aids.
- Coordinate training sites and schedules.
- Provide guidance, training, and best‑shared practices.
- Research, develop, and propose best practices in safe operating procedures and policies.
- Aid in updating and developing WYDOT Safety manuals and policies.
- Create and manage electronic forms and utilize WYDOT’s safety management and computer database systems.
- Create data analysis reports.
- OSHA 10 certification
- 30‑hour instructor certification
- First Aid/CPR/AED (Adult, Child, Infant) certification
- Hazardous Materials Specialist certification
- Knowledge of report writing.
- Knowledge of the federal and state rules, regulations, policies, practices and procedures regarding safety.
- Knowledge of industrial hygiene and safety and their application to industry, other commercial enterprises, government, private organizations, etc.
- Knowledge of safety inspection procedures.
- Knowledge of accident investigation techniques.
Education & Experience Substitution: 3–5 years of progressive work experience (typically with OSHA)

Education: Bachelor's Degree
Experience: 0–2 years of progressive work experience (typically with OSHA)
