Principal Engineer

The Wyoming Department of Transportation seeks a Principal Engineer to lead the Construction Program in Newcastle, Wyoming, overseeing highway construction and contract administration from design through finalization. This position involves managing projects ranging from city street maintenance to major interstate highway and bridge reconstruction, working with federal, state, county, and city personnel to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to high standards while maintaining a safe work environment.

• Lead and manage the Construction Program, coordinating design, procurement, construction, and contract administration from project inception to finalization.
• Oversee highway construction projects ranging from city street maintenance to interstate highway and bridge reconstruction.
• Collaborate with federal, state, county, and city personnel to ensure projects meet schedule, budget, quality, and safety requirements.
• Ensure compliance with applicable standards, regulations, and project specifications.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
• 2–4 years of progressive engineering experience at the Project Engineer level
• Professional Engineer (PE) License required at time of hire
• Knowledge of highway geometrics, hydraulic design, soil engineering, and construction practices
• Ability to plan, organize, and oversee work schedules and projects
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for technical and public engagement
