GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Join the Wyoming Department of Corrections and become part of the Reentry Unit as a Reentry Specialist at the Wyoming Women’s Center in Lusk, Wyoming. This position plays a critical role in preparing women for successful transitions from incarceration back into communities throughout Wyoming by coordinating reentry services, facilitating Pre-Release programming, building community partnerships, and serving as the primary liaison for Parole Board activities at the facility.

The Reentry Specialist works closely with institutional staff, Probation and Parole, the Wyoming Board of Parole, community providers, and other partners to help address barriers to successful reentry and connect individuals with meaningful resources and opportunities. A unique focus of this position is identifying and developing resources that meet the needs of Wyoming’s female population, making it an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys problem-solving, relationship building, and making a direct impact on successful reentry and public safety.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Coordinates case plans for inmates/offenders to include addressing medical and/or mental health needs, support system, sustainable employment, long-term housing, sex offender and substance abuse treatment needs, basic life necessities, and transportation. Includes plan development and comprehensive documentation of plan completion.
  • Meets with inmates/offenders to educate and discuss services, transition planning expectations, and local and national resources.
  • Prepares and completes necessary documents for cases. Evaluates and audits case plans to ensure procedures and standards are being followed and met.
  • Provides informational support for inmates/offenders and case managers to ensure complete and comprehensive case plans, compliance with policies and procedures, and implementation of evidence-based programs.
  • Facilitates training and education for caseworkers and/or agents on evidence-based programs and best practices. Includes training content development and delivery.
  • Works collaboratively with a variety of agency, state, and federal staff as well as the courts, local law enforcement and local service providers.
  • Acts as liaison between the department, governmental agencies, and service providers
  • Facilitates offender programs; reviews offender classifications, disciplinary actions, and all phases of the Parole Board.
  • Works in conjunction with the Unit Management Team, supplying guidance and advice as well as being directly involved in completion of relevant actions.
  • Implements methods and controls to evaluate and improve functions based on Compass, PSI, and evidence-based programs. May administer assessments to inmates/offenders.
  • Provides operational guidance, technical assistance and training.
  • Monitors accountability and compliance of program participants.
  • Travels to various institutions or community corrections facilities to interview and assess inmates or offenders to ensure program or contract compliance.
  • Develops and maintains a list of community-based services available to offenders upon or during release; functions as an intermediary between community services and the Department of Corrections.
KNOWLEDGE:
  • Knowledge and understanding of Wyoming laws and the criminal justice system, probation and parole policies and procedures, parole board policies, and adult community corrections regulations.
  • Knowledge of the assessment of criminal risk and needs, treatment interventions, case planning and cognitive-behavioral programming.
  • Knowledge of case planning and case management.
  • Knowledge of current methods, techniques, and practices for specialized programs.
  • Knowledge of correctional counseling methods and practices.
  • Knowledge of principles, concepts, and practices of contemporary staff development.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Bachelor's Degree (typically in Criminal Justice)

Experience:

0-3 years progressive work experience (typically in Correctional Programs)

OR

Education & Experience Substitution: 4-6 years progressive work experience (typically in Correctional Programs)
