Position: Innovation Engineer (Opera) »
Location: Guernsey

Overview

Opera is a privately owned financial services group, created to build a world-class portfolio of fund, corporate and fiduciary businesses. Opera’s growing portfolio includes Accuro (pending regulatory approval), Amber Trust Ltd (now Oak Bahamas), HFL and Oak, with operations across seven jurisdictions:
Geneva, Guernsey, Isle of Man, Jersey, London, Mauritius, The Bahamas and Bermuda.

This role within Opera sits at the intersection of strategic technology exploration and practical delivery, directly supporting Opera Group’s long-term ambition to become a digital-first, AI-enabled organisation. This is a hands-on engineering role for a developer who enjoys pushing boundaries as much as shaping production-grade solutions. Not just writing code but reimagining how work is done, exploring what’s possible with modern software, data platforms, and AI, and then turning the best ideas into real, secure, and scalable systems.

The successful candidate will work across our core platforms and data layer, developing new tools, prototypes, automations, and AI-enabled capabilities that improve quality, speed, and control. This role blends software engineering, data engineering, and product thinking within a regulated financial services environment, where governance, security, and reliability matter.

This is an ideal role for someone who is a strong engineer and a strong communicator, who thrives on variety — equally comfortable using and building APIs, experimenting with LLMs, improving data pipelines, and presenting ideas and outcomes to senior stakeholders.

Responsibilities
  • Develop tools, prototypes, automations, and AI-enabled capabilities across core platforms and data layers to improve quality, speed, and control.
  • Explore modern software, data platforms, and AI to translate ideas into secure, scalable production systems.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to present ideas and outcomes to senior leadership; blend software engineering, data engineering, and product thinking within a regulated environment.
Qualifications
  • Experience working with APIs, system integrations, and automation.
