Job Summary

The Buyer II manages procurement activities of materials for natural‑gas engine and generator production and service with greater autonomy. The role negotiates supplier terms, proactively reduces cost and lead‑time risks, and resolves issues. It balances tactical execution with analytical decision‑making to support operational efficiency.

Essential Duties
  • Manage end‑to‑end purchasing for assigned commodities or suppliers.
  • Analyze MRP signals and adjust purchasing strategies accordingly.
  • Negotiate pricing, lead times, and terms (delivery/payment) within defined limits.
  • Proactively mitigate supply risks and resolve delivery or quality issues.
  • Develop and maintain supplier relationships, monitor performance, and support corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with Planning, Operations, and Engineering on part changes, cost/lead‑time impacts, and supplier qualifications.
  • Support cost savings and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate forecasting and communicate supply risks.
  • All other duties assigned.
Qualifications Education
  • 4 Year / Bachelors Degree in Supply Chain, Business or related field from an accredited university.
Experience
  • 5 years of experience in procurement, purchasing, supply chain or technical field in an industrial / manufacturing environment.
  • 3 years of experience managing suppliers and purchase orders independently.
  • 3 years of exposure to MRP/ERP systems in a lean manufacturing or operations environment.
Preferred
  • 7 years of experience in procurement, purchasing, supply chain or technical field in an industrial / manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with cost analysis or basic negotiations.
  • Honorably discharged service veterans are preferred.
Certifications, Licenses & Registrations
  • APICS (CPIM/CSCP) or ISM (CPSM)
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Working knowledge of procurement, supply chain, and inventory management.
  • Understanding of supplier performance metrics and cost drivers.
  • Familiarity with contract terms and basic negotiation principles.
  • Strong negotiation, analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Effective negotiation and supplier management skills.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems and data analysis tools such as MS Excel.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to make sound, data driven purchasing decisions.
  • Ability to influence suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Exposure to MRP/ERP systems in a lean manufacturing or operations environment.
  • Must be able to fluently speak, write, and read in English.
