Position Summary

The Chemical Optimization Specialist is responsible for the development, implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of production chemical programs across oil and gas operations. This role serves as the subject matter expert for production chemistry, supporting operational reliability, asset integrity, production optimization, environmental compliance, and cost management initiatives.

The position works closely with Operations, Production Engineering, Facilities Engineering, HSE, and chemical vendors to ensure chemical treatment programs effectively mitigate corrosion, scale, paraffin, emulsions, bacteria, and other production challenges while optimizing chemical expenditures and maximizing asset performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and optimize production chemical treatment programs for onshore assets.
  • Develop chemical treatment strategies to improve production efficiency and equipment reliability.
  • Analyze production data, laboratory results, and field observations to identify optimization opportunities.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts related to corrosion, scale, paraffin, solids, emulsion, water quality, and flow assurance issues.
  • Review chemical application rates and treatment effectiveness and recommend modifications to improve performance and reduce costs.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for chemical program effectiveness and spending.
  • Manage chemical operating budgets, accruals, forecasting, and cost reporting.
  • Coordinate chemical product trials, evaluations, and implementation of new technologies.
  • Review corrosion monitoring data, laboratory testing, and fluid analyses to support integrity management programs.
  • Conduct periodic field visits to production facilities and offshore platforms to assess treatment effectiveness and equipment performance.
  • Partner with operations personnel and chemical vendors to investigate production upsets and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain regulatory compliance associated with chemical handling, storage, transportation, and environmental requirements.
  • Prepare technical reports, operational summaries, and management presentations regarding chemical program performance.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Industrial Technology, or related technical discipline preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and significant production chemistry experience may be considered.

Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in oil and gas production operations, production chemistry, flow assurance, or chemical optimization.
  • Strong understanding of production chemical applications and oilfield treating programs.
  • Experience managing vendor relationships and chemical budgets.
  • Offshore operations experience preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to work in varying weather and industrial operating conditions.
