Career and Technical Education (CTE) Instructor – Experience Requirements
Candidates for this position must possess a minimum of 4,000 hours of recent and relevant occupational experience within the Hospitality and Tourism industry. “Recent experience” is defined as experience earned within the ten-year period preceding the Annual Career Authorization (ACA) application or recommendation for CTE certification by a Michigan Department of Education (MDE) approved educator preparation institution.
Candidates holding a current and valid State of Michigan license or national certification in the Hospitality and Tourism industry may apply up to 4,000 hours used to obtain their original licensure toward the experience requirement. Relevant business and industry experience, including specific military occupational experience, may be counted.
If needed, candidates may apply up to 3,000 hours from approved alternative experiences, including: supervised experience, completion of a CTE teacher certification program, student teaching, occupational assessment, business or industrial training programs, postsecondary instruction, and paraprofessional experience.
