Kent Intermediate School District Adult Education – Wyoming Campus, Wyoming, Michigan
Starting Date: Immediately
Student AdvocateFull‑time, 182‑day school year position. Non‑Union Hourly Classified, Grade 4, 8 hours per day. Monday–Friday 8:30 am‑5 pm; occasional evening availability may be required.
Responsibilities- Provide individualized case management to adult learners, including assistance with applications, forms, and other needs.
- Identify and connect students and their resident school district regarding special education services outlined in IEPs.
- Advocate for student needs and provide crisis intervention to help students overcome home and life situations that are barriers to educational success.
- Create community partnerships that allow barrier removal.
- Maintain documentation and reporting of student interaction and progress.
- Collaborate with educational staff to address student needs.
- Demonstrate understanding of the unique needs of adult learners who speak multiple languages.
- Assist students with accommodations for GED testing.
- Keep the adult education team informed of community opportunities.
- Present in classrooms about programs and services available to adult learners.
- Work proactively with instructors and staff to identify students who can utilize the services of the Student Advocate.
- Engage in other duties/tasks as assigned by the Director of Adult Ed or other Kent ISD Administration.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred and/or 3+ years of experience working with adult students in a related role.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, families, staff, and other stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; bilingual abilities preferred.
- Ability to concentrate, prioritize, and work independently as well as cooperatively, while meeting deadlines.
- Ability to read, comprehend, and transmit detailed instructions to plan and perform job duties.
- Broad knowledge of organizational operations and policy.
- High level of interpersonal skills—including discretion, integrity, and flexibility—to interact with students, staff, administrators, community partners, and the public.
- Excellent computer skills: proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Power School, Google products, and learning web‑based applications related to the Adult Ed program.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including some evening work, as needed.
