Overview
The Battle Creek VA Medical Center is recruiting for an Advanced Medical Support Assistant (AMSA) to function in the Business Operations Service (BOS) within the Pact Team at the Battle Creek VAMC, Lansing VA clinic, and Wyoming VA clinic. This position provides clerical administrative support in the coordination, care, and treatment of patients throughout the Medical Center.
ResponsibilitiesThe work includes functions such as serving as an initial point of contact for the units, clinics, patient call centers, scheduling patient appointments, tracking, reviewing, and responding to electronic orders, consults, and other elements in the electronic medical record and medical systems. It requires practical knowledge of computerized data entry, information processing systems and software related to patient care, the healthcare system's organization and services, basic rules and regulations governing visitors and patient treatment, knowledge of standard procedures, and medical terminology.
The Advanced MSA provides specialized and expert administrative patient support while working collaboratively in an interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery model. Work involves specialized administrative judgment and the flexible use of a wide range of clinical flow processes relating to access to care across multiple clinics, specialties and community resources. The AMSA recommends changes to existing clinic procedures based on current administrative guidelines, coordinates with the patient care team to review clinic appointment availability, ensures clinic schedules are closely monitored, makes adjustments as necessary, and develops effective communication with patients, interdisciplinary teams, VA medical centers, and other agencies.
Other assignments at this level include: processing incoming patient secure messages through My Healthy Vet , participating in team huddles and meetings, setting priorities and deadlines, identifying incomplete encounters, assisting in reinforcing plans of care, entering information into the electronic record, monitoring pre-appointment requirements, managing patient systems, and evaluating patient information and clinic schedules to determine immediate appointments.
