2nd Shift Maintenance Technician

This role supports a high-volume bakery production facility by keeping equipment running safely and efficiently on 2nd shift. You will work as part of a small, skilled maintenance team to perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot issues, and complete repairs on mechanical and electrical systems across the plant. The position focuses on maintaining ovens, conveyors, mixers, motors, gearboxes, and related production equipment in a clean, food-grade environment.

Responsibilities
  • Work on 2nd shift from approximately 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., supporting production operations with planned rotating Saturday shifts and very occasional Sunday work for major projects.
  • Collaborate with a team of four Maintenance Technicians on 2nd shift to keep all production equipment operating safely and reliably.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic machinery breakdowns on the plant floor.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance, including inspections, greasing, lubricating, and cleaning equipment parts to reduce downtime.
  • Respond quickly to emergency breakdowns and active line failures to restore production as safely and efficiently as possible.
  • Maintain and repair conveyors, motors, gearboxes, photo eyes, solenoids, and basic facility plumbing systems.
  • Perform mechanical repairs on gears, motors, bearings, pumps, gearboxes, and other rotating equipment.
  • Change and align belts, adjust components, and service ovens, conveyors, mixers, and related production machinery.
  • Carry out electrical work on 3-phase systems, including changing out motors and gearboxes and understanding how to change the direction of DC motors.
  • Use TIG and stick welding, as well as fabrication skills, to build or repair simple guards, brackets, and other metal components.
  • Operate plasma cutters and related metalworking tools to support fabrication and equipment repair needs.
  • Troubleshoot basic PLC-related issues to help identify and resolve equipment faults.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and equipment documentation to guide maintenance and repair activities.
  • Follow OSHA Lock-Out/Tag-Out procedures and all plant safety protocols during maintenance work.
  • Adhere to HACCP, SQF, and Good Manufacturing Practices at all times to support food safety and product quality.
  • Document maintenance activities as required and communicate equipment status and issues to supervisors and teammates.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying recurring issues and recommending preventive or corrective actions.
Essential Skills
  • Hands-on experience with electrical systems, including 3-phase power and industrial wiring.
  • Mechanical experience working with gears, motors, grease systems, bearings, and pneumatics.
  • Ability to perform TIG welding and basic fabrication for maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Experience maintaining and troubleshooting conveyors, ovens, mixers, and packaging equipment.
  • Skill in diagnosing and repairing pumps, gearboxes, and other rotating equipment.
  • Ability to change out motors and gearboxes and adjust or replace belts.
  • Working knowledge of pneumatics and hydraulics in an industrial setting.
  • Ability to troubleshoot basic PLC-related issues in a production environment.
  • Proficiency in reading blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Capability to follow OSHA Lock-Out/Tag-Out procedures and plant safety requirements.
  • Commitment to following HACCP, SQF, and Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Ability to work effectively on 2nd shift and respond to occasional weekend needs.
  • Physical ability to work in a warm environment, stand for extended periods, and handle tools and equipment safely.

  • Experience in food or beverage manufacturing environments.
  • Previous work in a bakery or similar high-volume production facility.
  • Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices specific to food production.
  • Comfort using plasma cutters and other metalworking equipment.
  • Experience working within a structured preventive maintenance program.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with a multi-shift maintenance team.
  • Strong communication skills to coordinate with production and leadership.
  • Attention to detail and a focus on safety and equipment reliability.
