The Bindery Machine & Treatment Operator Level I is responsible for setting up, operating, and troubleshooting a variety equipment (cutting, folding, and/or stitching) to meet daily production and quality goals in a safe and efficient manner.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Sets up, adjusts, and operates various bindery equipment such as buckle folder, saddle stitch, cutter, or sheet laminating.
  • Feeds, stocks, moves, jogs, arranges, unloads, and rotates items on/off bindery and/or finishing equipment in accordance with operating instructions.
  • Understands different paper weights, sizes, kinds, and colors to be able to identify paper conditions
  • Cuts the paper for their jobs.
  • Monitors quality and performs all required testing and makes any equipment adjustments necessary
  • Performs housekeeping and preventative maintenance duties on all machines and work areas
  • Reads and understands work orders, layout sheets, and other specifications prior to starting the assigned job.
  • Completes all work timely and accurately.
  • Consistently produce smooth runs by using basic mechanical aptitude.
  • Complies with all safety policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Cross trains in other areas of the print shop.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by direct Supervisor.
Qualifications Education, Training, and Experience
  • High School education or equivalent is required.
  • 1 year of solid work experience running industrial equipment preferred.
  • Prior experience within the printing industry is ideal.
Specific skills, knowledge, and abilities
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task for maximum efficiency without sacrificing accuracy.
  • Ability to skillfully use hand tools or machines needed to perform tasks.
  • Ability to read and comprehend written forms and instructions.
  • Competency to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Works independently and/or in a team environment, cooperating with co-workers.
