Role Description

The Toolmaker/Press Tryout Specialist/Tool and Die role is a full-time, on-site position based in Wyoming, MI. This role involves building, fitting, and assembling new tools and dies, as well as modifying and repairing existing tooling to support production needs. Day-to-day responsibilities include setting up and running press tryouts, diagnosing issues with tooling performance, and making precise adjustments to ensure parts meet specifications.

The role also includes reading and interpreting blueprints, using a variety of hand tools and machine tools, and collaborating with engineering and production teams to improve tool designs and processes. The specialist is expected to maintain a clean and safe work area, follow all safety procedures, and document work performed for future reference and quality control.

Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience in toolmaking or tool and die work, including building, fitting, and repairing tools and dies.
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings, and specifications, and translate them into accurate tooling.
  • Proficiency with machine tools (such as mills, lathes, grinders) and common hand tools used in precision manufacturing.
  • Experience with press setup and tryout, including identifying forming issues and making adjustments to achieve part quality.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail in measuring, layout, and inspection tasks.
  • Commitment to workplace safety, proper handling of equipment, and maintaining a clean, organized work environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, communicate clearly, and collaborate with engineering and production staff.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment and vocational training or apprenticeship in tool and die or related fields are preferred.
