Biological Science Technician (Plants)
The United States Bureau of Land Management is hiring Biological Science Technicians (Plants) in Wyoming. Positions are located in Lander, WY and Buffalo, WY. 2 vacancies are available.
Salary- $17.64 to $23.94 per hour
- Pay scale: GS‑5 to GS‑7
- Make observations and record data relating to plant studies.
- Lead or conduct field searches for populations of sensitive, threatened or endangered plant species.
- Collect ecological site information for population distribution, condition, trend, associated species, geology and soil type, and prepare reports.
- Participate in environmental studies documenting factors affecting plant species and habitat.
- Inventory rare and endangered species habitat.
- Selective Placement Factor: Driver's License.
- For GS‑5:
One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to GS‑4 level OR a 4‑year bachelor's degree with at least 6 semester hours directly related to the position. - For GS‑6:
One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to GS‑5 level OR one full year of graduate study directly related to the position. - For GS‑7:
One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to GS‑6 level OR one full year of graduate education directly related to the position.
- U.S. citizenship is required.
- Cannot hold an active real‑estate license or have an interest in firms dealing with federal lands.
- Direct deposit is required.
- Appointment is subject to a favorably adjudicated background or suitability investigation.
- Resume must demonstrate qualification criteria.
- Must be at least 18 years old to be assigned to a hazardous position.
- Some locations may require a valid state driver’s license while employed.
Job requires physical exertion, including bending and walking on rough, rocky, mountainous, and densely vegetated terrain. Lifting and carrying equipment and providing personal comfort and safety equipment for extended field work is required.
Work EnvironmentOffice work is performed in a well‑lit, ventilated, cooled and heated setting. Field work may involve cuts, bruises, extreme weather, and injuries or discomfort from pests or animals. Employees must adhere to all safety rules.
