Fairview has an immediate opening for a Surgical Technologist Education Specialist at our Wyoming Lakes Hospital, located in Wyoming, MN.
This is a casual/0.01 FTE opening (daytime hours as needed), meaning there are no guaranteed hours per pay period and this role is not eligible for benefits.
The Surgical Technologist Education Specialist directs and/or participates in the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of learning for assigned groups or departments. The Surgical Technologist Education Specialist functions as educator, consultant, coach, and liaison regarding learning theory and the competence development of staff.
Job ExpectationsAssesses learning needs of individuals, groups, and departments.
- Uses a variety of approaches to assess the ongoing learning needs of staff including competence assessments, surveys, interviews, quality management reports, new practice guidelines and procedures, new research, regulatory requirements, and strategic initiatives that support the mission of Fairview.
- Considers the needs of employees and all other relevant staff, e.g. students, volunteers, contract workers, and/or physicians.
- Validates the identified needs.
- Documents the identified needs.
Plans and designs learning approaches to meet the identified needs.
- Uses collaborative approaches to plan and design activities that meet the identified needs.
- Integrates principles of adult learning.
- Integrates learning organization principles and practices.
- Considers staff needs regarding timelines, relevancy, ease‑of‑use, and learning styles and abilities.
- Considers resource availability and constraints.
- Creates daily plan/placement of individuals on orientation and students.
- Creates and utilizes standard orientation template/checklist.
- Manages all onboarding tasks and provides ongoing status updates to the OR Manager.
Offers learning opportunities to meet the identified needs.
- Offers timely, relevant, user‑friendly, and cost‑effective blended learning activities.
- Offers multiple learning approaches whenever possible.
- Promotes a welcoming, supportive, and nurturing learning environment.
- Acts as a role model for effective teaching.
- Coaches and mentors others to be effective teachers.
- Assists in the preparation, management, and delivery of education in‑services in collaboration with the Clinical Education Specialist (CES), Assistant Head Nurses (West Bank) and lead technologists.
Evaluates the effectiveness of the learning opportunities.
- Evaluates learning activities for satisfaction and learning.
- Collaborates with others to evaluate learning activities for transference and results.
Modifies learning activities based on the evaluation results. - Documents and reports results.
- Completes regularly scheduled check‑ins with orientees and students during and after the defined orientation period.
Communicates effectively with others.
- Communicates frequently and effectively with stakeholders to ensure learning needs are met.
- Brings educational expertise to other areas such as policy and procedure development, quality improvement efforts, and activities in support of the strategic plan.
- Collaborates with other departments to identify and evaluate learner ability to meet OR related competencies.
Acts as a best practice role model.
- Collaborates with OR Nursing and Provider leadership to implement and evaluate standards of practice for all staff.
- Assists with monthly audits and on‑spot education.
- Assists with weekly newsletter creation and distribution.
- Consistently promotes and practices Safety Always Behaviors.
- 1 year experience as a Surgical Technologist
- Surgical Technologist Cert
- Previous teaching experience is preferred
