As a Senior ECU Software & Systems Engineer within the Indian Motorcycle team, you will be responsible for the end-to-end development of vehicle control systems and embedded application software for Electronic Control Units (ECUs). This unique role combines component-level controls engineering with model-based software development using tools such as MATLAB/Simulink. You will lead the design, integration, implementation, verification, and release of control strategies and embedded software, ensuring robust, scalable, and high-performing solutions across multiple vehicle platforms.
- Lead the design, integration, and application software of motorcycle vehicle control modules.
- Develop embedded application software using model-based design methodologies (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink) for deployment to vehicle control modules.
- Translate feature and system requirements into detailed software and control system requirements, ensuring traceability within requirements management tools.
- Document and maintain software unit requirements and supporting design documentation.
- Own both control algorithm development and software implementation for assigned ECU features, ensuring alignment between system intent and deployed code.
- Design application software based on system and software requirements while adhering to internal development standards.
- Drive platform-based strategies for controls and software enabling reuse across vehicle programs.
- Integrate, build, and release application software using model-based code generation tools and target-specific build tool chains.
- Experience with A2L file creation, maintenance, validation, and troubleshooting to support ECU calibration, measurement, and diagnostic activities.
- Establish and lead project development schedules from concept through production implementation in alignment with product development processes.
- Support and execute verification and validation activities including MIL, SIL, HIL, (as applicable) and vehicle-level testing to ensure software meets quality standards.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including electrical, mechanical, test, and program management.
- Interface with suppliers to ensure software and hardware deliverables meet program milestones and technical requirements.
- Perform root cause analysis and troubleshooting of vehicle control, software, and integration issues.
- Support functional safety and development processes including HARA, DFMEA, SFMEA, and FTA as applicable.
- Own the creation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of software development processes, tools, standards, and training.
- Other duties as required.
- B.S. or higher in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience developing embedded control systems and ECU software.
- Strong experience with model-based development tools such as MATLAB/Simulink for control and software design.
- Experience generating production code from models (e.g., Embedded Coder) and integrating software into production build environments.
- Knowledge of vehicle communication networks including CAN, J1939, UDS, and CAN FD.
- Experience with requirements development, requirements management tools, and traceability processes.
- Strong understanding of control theory, system dynamics, and embedded systems design.
- Experience with project planning and coordination preferred.
- Experience with DFMEA, SFMEA, Functional Safety, and related development processes desired.
- Hands-on experience with electrical test equipment, data acquisition, debugging tools, and vehicle diagnostics preferred.
- Embedded hardware and electronic circuit experience preferred.
- Familiarity with vehicle systems, architectures, and mechanical interactions preferred.
- Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, cross-functional development environment.
- Some travel required (up to 10%) to support vehicle builds, testing, supplier interaction, and program activities.
- Fast-paced office and lab development environment.
- Hands-on vehicle and hardware interaction required.
- Motorcycle license endorsement and training may be required.
