We are currently in search of a Director of Philanthropy, Leadership and Major Gifts for the Computer History Museum (CHM). The position is Hybrid in Mountain View, CA. This is a Full-Time ,
Permanent position.

ORGANIZATION TYPE: Nonprofit Museum

LOCATION: Mountain View, CA (Hybrid: 20-40% onsite)

DURATION:Permanent — Direct Hire

ANNUAL SALARY:$125-$150K

The Director, Major Gifts will play a key role in advancing this mission through strategic donor engagement and philanthropic partnerships. Reporting to the Vice President & Chief Development Officer, this individual will manage a portfolio of leadership and major gift donors ($25K+), cultivate high-capacity prospects, and support the Museum’s annual fund, membership program, and campaign-related stewardship initiatives.

Ideal Candidate:
  • Demonstrated success identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major donors resulting in significant philanthropic support
  • Experience managing relationships with high-capacity donor prospects and building robust fundraising pipelines
  • Strong ability to develop sophisticated donor strategies in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent relationship-building and interpersonal communication skills
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities, including persuasive donor correspondence and proposals
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and follow-through
  • Knowledge of planned giving instruments preferred
  • Comfortable working in a collaborative, entrepreneurial, and fast-paced environment
  • Genuine enthusiasm for technology, innovation, and the future impact of computing
  • Bachelor’s degree required;
    Master’s degree and/or CFRE preferred
How You Will Spend Your Day:
  • Manage and grow a portfolio of approximately 100 donor prospects with the capacity to give $100,000 or more
  • Develop and execute donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for major, annual, and planned gifts
  • Partner with the Director of Philanthropy — Annual Fund and Membership to develop strategies for leadership-level annual fund support
  • Write donor briefings, prepare correspondence, coordinate meetings, and support solicitation efforts
  • Steward donor relationships and ensure meaningful ongoing engagement and recognition
  • Collaborate with colleagues to implement long-term stewardship plans and donor communications
  • Support leadership for the Museum’s Lifetime Giving Society and campaign prospect stewardship touchpoints
  • Participate in cultivation and fundraising events to engage current and prospective supporters
  • Serve as an ambassador for the Museum’s mission, exhibitions, and long-range vision
  • Support additional fundraising initiatives and special projects as needed
