Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center is seeking Graduate Nurses and Nurse I’s to join our Inpatient Nursing teams across a variety of units and shifts. This is an excellent opportunity to begin or advance your nursing career in a nationally respected, leading‑edge oncology environment.

Inpatient Units Include

Medical Oncology:

  • Leukemia
  • Solid Tumor & Palliative Care
  • Transplant & Cellular Therapy
  • Leukemia & Transplant & Cellular Therapy
  • Lymphoma, Multiple Myeloma, & Immunotherapy

Surgical Oncology:

  • Thoracic & GU
  • GI & Soft Tissue
  • Head & Neck, Neurosurgery, Breast & GYN
Medical & Surgical Oncology
  • Step-down Critical Care

Intensive Care Unit (ICU):

  • Critical Care

Across these units, nurses work with a multidisciplinary team—including providers, therapists, social workers, and case managers to support patients. A key priority is educating patients and caregivers to promote a safe, confident transition home.

About the Role

The Nurse I provides patient care, health teaching, and health counseling in an oncology setting under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or other licensed independent provider.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plans, provides and supervises nursing interventions for individuals with cancer and cancer related health care problems.
  • Diagnoses and treats human responses to actual or potential health problems through such services as patient care, health teaching, and health counseling.
  • Provides interventions supportive to or restorative of life and well-being and executes medical regimens prescribed by a physician, dentist or other licensed health care provider authorized by the State Education Commissioner’s regulations.
  • Supervises Licensed Practical Nurses, Hospital Clinical Assistants and clinical secretaries in the provision of nursing interventions to patients.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops.
Compensation

The starting rate of pay for this position is $43.84 per hour. For the night shift, there is an additional night shift differential of $6.50 per hour.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

License Requirement
  • License to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of New York; or
  • Eligibility for license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of New York.
  • Education and Experience

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing (see note #2); or
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and the equivalent of one (1) year of full-time medical-surgical experience in an acute care setting (see note #3).
  • NOTES
  • Incumbents must obtain and maintain a License to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of New York within sixty (60) days of appointment as a condition of continued employment. Individuals who have graduated from a NYSED-approved nursing program and have applied for RN licensure and a limited permit may practice as a Graduate Nurse under direct RN supervision in accordance with NYS Office of the Professions requirements, which permit Graduate Nurse practice for up to ninety (90) days following graduation.
  • Incumbents must serve a one (1) year full-time probationary period as a Nurse I in order to be eligible for promotion to a Nurse II.
  • Upon successful completion of orientation and the ability to function independently at a satisfactory level for three (3) months (full-time), the incumbent would be eligible to be promoted to a Nurse II. This individual would then serve a one (1) year full-time probationary period as a Nurse II.
