Senior EPR Regulatory Engineer Job Summary
A Senior EPR Regulatory Engineer will be an integral member of a critical business function, responsible for achieving and maintaining compliance with current and emerging global extended producer responsibility (EPR) regulations. This role requires cross‑functional collaboration, legislation review, large data analysis, and risk assessment against a growing list of global sustainability requirements.
Responsibilities- Continuously track and interpret global extended producer responsibility laws and packaging waste regulations in all relevant markets.
- Develop strategies to comply with new or changing requirements.
- Develop and manage robust systems for collecting, tracking, and reporting data required under EPR schemes.
- Ensure accurate calculation of material volumes, recyclability, and fee obligations.
- Oversee the timely preparation and submission of EPR reports and payments to regulatory bodies or producer responsibility organizations (PROs).
- Maintain a central repository of compliance documentation.
- Act as the primary liaison with external EPR compliance partners and agencies, managing relationships with PROs and consultants.
- Engage in industry groups or forums on sustainability and EPR.
- Collaborate with Engineering and Packaging teams to drive initiatives that reduce packaging waste and improve recyclability, aligned with regulatory requirements and Polaris Geared for Good sustainability targets.
- Ensure internal awareness and compliance with relevant company policies and standards related to EPR.
- Develop training and guidance for teams and business units on EPR obligations.
- Clearly communicate compliance steps and strategy to all stakeholders to foster accountability.
- Define KPIs and track the performance of an EPR compliance program.
- Work cross‑functionally with related sustainability initiatives and compliance areas.
- Perform special projects and other duties as needed.
- Excellent project management and organizational skills, with the ability to lead complex projects and cross‑functional teams.
- Ability to manage timelines and multiple priorities.
- Strong analytical skills and experience managing large data sets related to products or materials.
- Proficiency in Excel and willingness to learn specialized EPR reporting tools or sustainability software.
- Keen attention to detail to ensure data accuracy for compliance reporting.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, capable of presenting complex regulatory information to diverse audiences.
- Proven ability to collaborate and influence cross‑functional stakeholders without direct authority.
- Strategic mindset with the ability to anticipate future regulatory trends and proactively plan for compliance.
- Enthusiasm for sustainability and the circular economy.
Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, packaging, sustainability, engineering, or a related field. 3‑5+ years of experience in environmental compliance, product stewardship, or sustainability program management, with a proven track record of managing regulatory compliance initiatives or sustainability projects across multiple jurisdictions. Experience specifically with packaging EPR compliance or waste/recycling regulations is highly valued. In‑depth knowledge of extended producer responsibility frameworks and waste regulations is required.
TravelApproximately 10%.
SalaryStarting pay range for Minnesota is $100,000 to $130,000 per year. Individual salaries and positioning within the range are determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, and geography.
