Overview

Boys & Girls Clubs of America is the nation's premier youth development organization. Our programs, training and services impact nearly 4 million children and teens every year.

At BGCA, we believe every young person deserves access to a safe, high-quality Club experience that inspires them to reach their full potential.

As Director, Nonprofit Strategy & Organizational Growth
- Southwest

, you will serve as a trusted advisor to Chief Professional Officers, Boards of Directors, and volunteer leaders across an assigned portfolio of Boys & Girls Clubs. You'll partner with leaders to understand their organizations and communities, identify the opportunities that matter most, and develop strategies that strengthen organizational performance, sustainability, and mission impact.

This is not a traditional organizational development role. It is an opportunity to bring your experience as a nonprofit leader, strategist, coach, and problem solver to organizations operating in very different environments, from rural communities and organizations navigating financial constraints to rapidly growing markets with significant opportunities to expand their reach.

You'll have considerable autonomy in how you manage your portfolio, coupled with access to expertise and resources across BGCA. Success requires someone who can earn trust, navigate complexity, make sense of competing priorities, and help leaders turn strategy into action.

  • Help Boards navigate executive leadership transitions, including Chief Professional Officer selection, onboarding, and mentoring.
  • Assess organizational and board capacity and develop strategies to address opportunities and gaps.
  • Help leaders distinguish between competing priorities and focus on the actions most likely to improve organizational and mission performance.
  • Establish strong partnerships with new Chief Professional Officers and Board Presidents and connect them with BGCA resources, expertise, and support.
Own and Advance a Portfolio of Markets

Approach your assigned portfolio with an owner's mindset, understanding the unique dynamics, opportunities, and challenges within each organization and community.

You will:

  • Develop a deep understanding of the organizations and markets within your portfolio, including organizational health, community needs, financial sustainability, leadership capacity, and opportunities for growth.
  • Identify high-priority organizations and markets where focused partnership can create meaningful change.
  • Work independently to develop strategies and service plans based on the needs and opportunities within each organization.
  • Use organizational, community, and performance data to identify trends, diagnose challenges, and establish priorities.
  • Help Club leaders translate opportunities for growth into focused, actionable strategies.
  • Balance the immediate needs of individual organizations with longer-term opportunities to strengthen markets and expand mission impact.
  • Serve as the primary relationship and connection point between assigned member organizations and BGCA.
Strengthen Organizational Capacity

Help nonprofit leaders build organizations that are positioned to thrive over the long term.

You will:

  • Provide consultation in strategic planning, organizational effectiveness, governance, leadership development, and operational sustainability.
