Partners with parents and families to develop, plan, and implement positive early childhood experiences. Provides high quality early education, child development services, and family support that promote children’s cognitive, social, and emotional growth. Implements research-based curriculum and screening and assessment procedures. Ensures compliance with Early Head Start (EHS) Performance Standards, the National Association for the Education of Young Children accreditation criteria, and Developmentally Appropriate Practices.

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

  • Visits families in the home to promote secure parent-child relationships and help parents provide high quality early learning experiences, while supporting family engagement in children learning and development.
  • Plans and develops, with the parents, an individualized program for the family, including establishing a caring professional relationship and a climate of mutual trust and respect for the families.
  • Works with parents to strengthen the family's knowledge of child development. Helps parents to understand how children grow and learn. Plans and conducts educational activities with parents to meet the child's intellectual, physical, emotional, and social needs.
  • Implements research-based curriculum and screening and assessment procedures that support individualization and growth in all areas of development necessary for school readiness.
  • Educates and assists families in accessing community resources and provides support for problem solving.
  • Completes all required paperwork within required deadlines and assists families with required paperwork to maintain services with community agencies.
  • Schedules, supports, and follows through with developmental screening of infants and toddlers motor, language, social, cognitive, perceptual, and emotional skills.
  • Coordinates, participates, and assists in implementation of the Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) with the Early Intervention Program for children with disabilities.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings and related activities. Attends workshops, conferences, and classes to increase professional knowledge. Serves on committees as assigned.
  • Performs related duties as required.
Required

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Child Development Education, Social Work, or a related field
  • One (1) to three (3) years of experience
  • Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities
Required Licenses or Certifications
  • Class C driver's license
  • CPR/ first aid
  • Certificate of completion for child abuse and neglect training
  • Certificate of Family Partnership
  • Ability to stay current on child development research
  • Ability to pass a background check
Knowledge of
  • English grammar, spelling, and punctuation
  • Principles and practices of basic bookkeeping
  • Modern office procedures, methods, and computer equipment
  • Nutrition requirements for pregnant women, infants, and toddlers
  • Child development, particularly infant and toddler
  • Americans with Disabilities Act
