Overview

Water/Wastewater Utilities Operator (Manufacturing)

Summary:

Responsible for assisting with the operation of wastewater treatment facility and all water utilities. Works with the Wastewater Manager to coordinate activities with equipment engaged in performing wastewater treatment and laboratory analysis. Assists with water sample collections, meter testing and installation. Assists with monitoring and logging of propane usage and helps with recycling in conjunction with delivering monthly water samples. Must possess a level I water collection and distribution along with a level II wastewater treatment and collection license (or greater).

Continued progression up to a Level III wastewater treatment is required for all operators as a goal within 2 years of employment. A key part of every employee's job is to serve as a Targhee ambassador, engaging the guest at every opportunity.

Responsibilities
  • As it relates to the treatment of wastewater and the plant operation:
  • Must have be working towards a full understanding of the structures (valves), air blowers and associated equipment.
  • Maintains responsibility for all aspects of safety as it relates to the handling, processing and testing of wastewater and culinary water supply.
  • Assists with the preparation of an annual maintenance schedule which follows the guidelines referred to in the O&M Manual for review by Director of Base Area Operations.
  • Responsible for landfill disposal of bio-solids once trained.
  • Assists with emptying and or coordinating with Facilities to ensure all commercial grease traps are maintained on a regular basis.
  • Assists in the pumping and disposal of all on-mountain portable toilets and vault toilets.
  • As it relates to monitoring, lab analysis and procedures:
  • Understandings the public's perception of this facility and visits with and educates the public about the plant when necessary.
  • Helps the Wastewater Manager prepare required reports and collect samples for testing to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • As it relates to the sewage collection system:
  • Understands Confined Space Entry.
  • As it relates to water meters:
  • Maintains a familiarization with the location and sizes of the various meters.
  • As it relates to the collection of water samples:
  • The ability to gain a full understanding of the critical nature of the collection of monthly, quarterly, yearly and tri-annually water samples and complies with the requirements outlined for sampling while taking samples.
  • As it relates to the raw water system:
  • Working towards a full knowledge of the system.
  • Assists with repairs of service lines.
  • Working towards an understanding and remains current of the SCADA system.
  • Working towards an understanding and assists with assigned repairs on the wells, distribution, and storage systems.
  • Resort Propane:
    Assists with monthly resort-wide propane reads, monitoring propane levels on all tanks and coordinating refilling of all on-mountain and base area propane tanks.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the Wastewater Manager.
  • Safety Responsibilities

    Protect the safety of self, workers, and Grand Targhee Resort guests. Report any potentially harmful equipment or situations to the immediate supervisor without delay. Report safety-related accidents and incidents at once to immediate supervisor. Follow all company and department safety policies and procedures as outlined in the Resort s Occupational Safety & Health Compliance Manual and department-specific procedures or manuals. Operate equipment safely so that it will not lead to injury to yourself or others.

    Drive in accordance with the law and Grand Targhee Resort policies. Have or acquire at the acceptance of the position the Hepatitis A and B, and Tetanus vaccine.

    Supervisory Responsibilities

    This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

    Work Schedule

    Due to the nature of the recreation industry, we are in operation seven days a week. This includes weekends and holidays and there is no guarantee of hours. Flexible working hours may be required based on the business levels.

    Education and/or Experience

    High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
