JOB TITLEPost Doctoral Research Associate in Leakage-Aware Hydrogen Supply Chain
JOB PURPOSEThe Laboratory for Low-Carbon Energy and Environmental Sustainability promotes a long-term vision for the role of both technology and policy to cope with complex energy, environmental and natural resource challenges. The laboratory conducts systems research that addresses technical, economic, and policy issues related to energy and environmental systems. Current interests of research mainly include carbon capture and storage, clean hydrogen, low-carbon energy systems, and the energy-water nexus under carbon constraints for climate change mitigation.
The laboratory pioneers the development of the Integrated Environmental Control Model (IECM), a computer tool used worldwide for power plant modeling and assessment. The principal investigator is Prof. Haibo Zhai, the Roy & Caryl Cline Distinguished Chair in Engineering and a Wyoming Excellence Chair at UW.
The laboratory will hire a postdoctoral research associate to work on a collaborative project with the UW School of Energy Resources'' Hydrogen Energy Research Center. This project will develop a risk-based, multi-tier computing framework to design, optimize, and operate hydrogen infrastructure while explicitly accounting for hydrogen leakage and mitigation. The outcomes will support sustainable development of low-carbon hydrogen supply chains and associated infrastructure.
The postdoctoral researcher will work under direction of Prof. Zhai and senior collaborators, present results at conferences, and publish work in peer-reviewed journals.
We strongly encourage applicants with expertise in process modeling, techno-economic analysis, stochastic optimization, and machine learning. Knowledge of hydrogen infrastructure and leakage mechanisms is a plus.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSA Doctoral Degree in chemical and environmental engineering, petroleum engineering, mechanical engineering or other energy related field. Expertise in optimization.
