Overview
Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is seeking a Principal Auditor to serve as the lead auditor responsible for independently and objectively conducting performance audits and non‑audit services of both internal and external entities. This role plays a critical part in adding value and improving the effectiveness of WYDOT’s operational processes, internal controls, and risk‑management practices.
The position is located in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Responsibilities- Conduct performance audits and non‑audit services as directed by the annual work plan, state and federal regulations, or requests from executive staff.
- Lead highly complex audits as an auditor in charge.
- Use risk‑assessment techniques and established policies to plan audit strategies.
- Execute audit plans, prepare and organize work papers, and perform procedures to gather sufficient evidence to support findings.
- Prepare informal and formal reports with conclusions, recommendations, and detailed problem analysis.
- Apply analytical skills to evaluate complex processes, identify risks, and recommend improvements.
- Manage audit teams as needed and lead projects through completion.
- Facilitate meetings with stakeholders and follow up on corrective actions.
- Stay current with evolving regulations and legislation to ensure accurate audit valuations.
- Assist in developing policies, procedures, and strategic planning.
- Provide excellent customer service and resolve conflicts respectfully.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree (typically in Finance).
- 1–2 years of progressive audit experience at a senior auditor level, or 4–6 years of progressive audit experience.
- Knowledge of Government Audit Standards and 2 CFR 200.
- Experience with Oracle ERP systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong problem‑solving abilities and professional judgment in navigating sensitive or ambiguous situations.
- Additional knowledge or experience in risk assessment and audit methodologies.
