General Description

We are now seeking Correctional Officers for the Wyoming State Penitentiary in Rawlins, Wyoming. The Wyoming State Penitentiary (WSP) is a high‑custody facility for the general population and administrative segregation housing. This position is essential for maintaining the institution's safety and security and is considered a Law Enforcement position, receiving the 20‑year retirement and state benefits package.

Essential Functions- Enforcement of rules and regulations.
- Responding to post orders of varied assigned posts.
- Supervising inmates in the performance of various jobs, modeling appropriate, pro‑social behavior.
- Assisting in a variety of searches, including checking for contraband items.
- Observing daily inmate living, programming, work areas, and the perimeter fence line; reporting security violations.
- Conducting daily scheduled counts of inmates.
- Assuming duties of housing control centers, central control centers, and inmate living areas, monitoring inmate movements.
- Becoming familiar with inmate names and characteristics for easier identification of inmate movements and infractions.
- Assisting in restraining unruly inmates, utilizing the minimum amount of force required.
- Assisting in transporting inmates within and off institution boundaries, including inter‑ and intra‑state predetermined destinations.
- Assisting in processing newly incarcerated inmates or the appropriate out‑processing of released inmates.
- Attending required training to perform duties at an acceptable level.
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Must have a valid driver's license
- Must not have a felony or domestic violence conviction.
- All successful candidates will be required to complete an initial training period and be awarded Correctional Officer Certification by the Wyoming Peace Officers Standards & Training (POST) Commission within one year of initial appointment.
- Knowledge of security measures, techniques, and precautions necessary to maintain a safe and secure institution.

Physical Working Conditions- Candidates must successfully pass a background/reference check, medical and psychological evaluation, physical fitness exam, urinalysis drug screen, and other pre‑employment testing before the appointment.
- Candidates must have the ability to work overtime as required and the ability to work on any shift, holidays, and weekends.
