Position: Habitat and Access Technician 2026-00462

Habitat and Access Technician (six‑month appointment)

Location:

Dubois, Wyoming

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department seeks a dedicated, self‑motivated individual to support wildlife conservation and public access efforts. The role involves land management practices that develop, enhance, and maintain Wildlife Habitat Management Areas (WHMAs) and Public Access Areas (PAAs).

Responsibilities
  • Irrigation maintenance – pivot, flood, and gated pipe
  • Fence construction and maintenance – wildlife and stock fence
  • Operation and maintenance of farm equipment and machinery
  • Weed identification and treatments
  • Wetland management
  • WHMA and PAA maintenance of roads, parking areas, and boat ramps
  • ATV/UTV operation and maintenance
  • Operation of power tools, 4x4 pickups, and trailers
Qualifications

Preferences/Agency Requirements:

  • Farm or ranch background or experience related to range management, fish and wildlife resource management, habitat development, or college coursework towards a degree in range, fish, or wildlife management.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

Knowledge and

Skills:

  • Farming/ranch work and irrigation experience
  • Wildlife, natural resource, range, wetland, and habitat management knowledge
  • Organizing, planning, prioritizing, and time‑management skills
  • Team player and effective communication with colleagues and the public
  • Ability to work independently and exercise independent judgment

Minimum Qualifications:

Physical Working Conditions
  • Weekend work required
  • Extended stays in campers or tents possible
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs
  • Work independently outdoors in all weather conditions
Notes
  • FLSA:
    Non‑exempt
  • Successful applicants must pass a background check prior to appointment
  • Position will be located in Dubois (4/1/2026 thru 9/30/2026); housing may be provided (cabins and/or campers)
