Trail Crew (Experienced/Operator) Summer 2026 (Transportation)

Build and maintain mountain bike and hiking trails using machines. Operates excavators, dozers, skid steers, and chainsaws. Assists with special events such as bike races, marathons, and festivals. A key part of each employee's job is to serve as a Targhee ambassador, engaging guests at every opportunity.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Operate machinery safely to construct and maintain mountain bike and hiking trails.
  • Operate excavators, dozers, and skid steers.
  • Operate chainsaws to clear trail corridors and new builds.
  • Assist in leading hand crew to ensure quality of work.
  • Assist with event staffing and organization.
  • Build features or maintain courses prior to events.
  • Assist in setting up courses and tearing down courses.
  • Course marshalling for races.
  • Test trails and features for safety as a proficient mountain biker.
  • Assist with design and layout of new trail construction.
  • Perform any reasonable duty as assigned by management.
  • Be self‑motivated, dependable, and able to lead peers.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

WORK SCHEDULE

Due to the nature of the recreation industry, we operate seven days a week, including weekends and holidays. There is no guarantee of hours, and flexible working hours may be required based on business levels.

RESPONSIBILITIES TO SAFETY

Protect the safety of self‑workers and Grand Targhee Resort guests. Report any potentially harmful equipment or situations to the immediate supervisor without delay. Report safety‑related accidents and incidents immediately to the supervisor. Follow all company and department safety policies and procedures as outlined in the Resorts Occupational Safety & Health Compliance Manual and department‑specific procedures or manuals. Operate equipment safely to prevent injury.

Drive in accordance with the law and Grand Targhee Resort policies.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Prior machine operation experience required. Prior experience in trail building in a bike park environment required. Must be a proficient mountain biker and able to ride all levels of trails. Previous experience operating ATVs and trucks is required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as written work plans, SDS (Safety Data Sheets), and equipment manuals. Communicate verbally with co‑workers, supervisors, and contractors.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form.

OTHER

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must possess a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

This is a physically demanding position. The employee must be able to regularly stand, use hands to feel objects, handle tools, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. Frequently required to walk and hike steep mountain terrain. Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; taste or smell. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

+, and occasionally lift 100 lbs. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to work on their feet 10+ hours/day.
