The primary purpose of this position is to install, repair, troubleshoot, and maintain fire alarm and mass notification systems, central monitoring control systems (Monaco D-21), and associated electric/electronic devices and equipment.
Duties- Plans and lays out work from electrical and electronic block diagrams, wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical orders.
- Performs a full range of duties pertinent to the deployment, maintenance, and modification of the Fire Alarm Control Panels, Fire Detection Devices, Central Monitoring Control Systems (Monaco D-21), Mass Notification Systems and their associated electric/electronic devices and components.
- Uses and maintains various types of equipment, computerized or otherwise, hand and/or power tools, such as screwdrivers, pliers, wire cutters, soldering irons, cable pullers, hydraulic benders, and pipe threading machines.
- Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment.
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-2800, Electrical Installation and Maintenance Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue‑collar positions, you must meet any screen‑out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.
Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is ability to do the work of a WG-2805‑ELECTRICIAN (ALARM SYSTEM TECH) without more than normal supervision.
JOB ELEMENTS:
Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Physical Effort:
Makes repairs from work stands and other hard‑to‑reach places. Must stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, stretch, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts parts and equipment that weigh up to 20 pounds. Occasionally lifts items that weigh over 40 pounds with assistance from other workers.
Working Conditions:
Works both inside and outside, sometimes in bad weather and in areas that are noisy, dirty, dusty, and greasy. May work on scaffolding or cranes at heights of 30 or more feet, or in close quarters such as manholes or attics. Subject to electric shock, burns, cuts, and bruises. May be exposed to temperature extremes in test facilities, extremely high noise levels, and exposure to lead, radiation, chemicals, or carcinogens.

EXPERIENCE:
Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part‑time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
