HF Sinclair in Sinclair, WY is seeking a Chemist to conduct routine and non‑routine chemistry/laboratory assignments for the Lab Department under limited supervision. May lead the work of others from time‑to‑time.
Job Duties- Samples and conducts standard tests on raw materials, intermediates, and finished products and may train others to perform standard tests depending on location
- Ensures testing is carried out as per established methods/procedures
- Ensures the quality of work through quality assurance testing and documentation
- Records, reports, and certifies results
- Performs routine maintenance and calibrations on laboratory equipment
- Creates QA documents and protocols
- May also perform other duties, including:
- Monitors process control of plant streams, product purity and fuel gas composition, liquefied petroleum products, and various levels of Hydrogen
- Supports other departments in sampling, testing, and compliance monitoring
- Operates Chromatographs
- Ships samples designated as hazardous
- Monitors drinking water streams for compliance
- Provides support to operations with product blending
- Works with outside testing laboratories to coordinate special requests and compliance testing
Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion.
ExperienceNone required.
A minimum of a Bachelors Degree of Science in Chemistry or related field is required.
Required SkillsWorking knowledge of laboratory testing and ability to apply this knowledge. Working knowledge of petroleum products and testing. Depending on location, may require the ability to train and lead the work of others. Intermediate reading and writing skills, ability to perform advanced mathematical calculations, effective communication with others, both written and verbal communication.
Work ConditionsOffice based with occasional refinery visits, and up to 10% travel by land and air required. Petroleum refinery/industrial environment including but not limited to chemicals, pressure vessels, tanks, and rotating equipment. Subject to all weather, and varying road conditions.

Job conditions require standing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movements, reaching or grasping, and wearing personal protective equipment (beards not permitted).
