GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is committed to providing a safe, high-quality, and efficient transportation system for the people of Wyoming. We are currently seeking a Highway Maintenance Technician for our Maintenance Program located in Jackson, Wyoming. As a Highway Maintenance Technician, you will perform a variety of roadway maintenance duties under limited supervision to help keep Wyoming’s transportation system safe and reliable for the traveling public.

The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed in the job level.

• Maintains and operates complex equipment safely and proficiently
• Assists with training other technicians in the operation and maintenance of equipment
• Under limited supervision, flags traffic and sets up traffic control devices
• Operates heavy equipment, including, but not limited to: single and tandem axle trucks, equipped with an auger, aerial lift equipment, or equipped with plows, wing plows, sanders, and chemical systems to remove snow and ice from roadway surface
• Responsible for the rehabilitation of roadway surfaces and/or traffic control devices such as signs and pavement markings
• Responsible for general maintenance of highway-related facilities such as rest areas; may include water and wastewater treatment according to EPA and DEQ requirements
• Attends and completes all state and federal training required to obtain/maintain certifications, perform inspections, and learn new skills
• Communicates information to update others' status and/or process effectiveness
• Utilizes computers for agency practices, such as training and performance evaluations, and stays up to date on technological advances with specialized equipment
• Performs duties involved in removing snow and ice from roadways; determines the effectiveness of treatments and may determine when a change in treatment is necessary
• Adheres to all state and federal safety and quality standards, including the correct use of all associated personal protective equipment

Preference may be given to applicants who have a current Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements prior to employment. Must have the ability to obtain water certifications if necessary. Must have the ability to obtain a Certification to operate specified equipment as directed by WYDOT. Must have the ability to obtain a Certificate of course completion in Defensive Driving.

Must have the ability to obtain a First Aid/CPR certification. Must have the ability to obtain a Flagger certification.
