Job Summary
Salary: $25.26 per hour.
Location:
Lusk, WY. Job Type: Permanent Full‑time. Classification: COPR

Non‑Exempt.
In order to maintain institutional safety standards, the position requires the following:
- Enforcement of rules and regulations.
- Responding to post orders on various assigned posts.
- Modeling appropriate, pre‑social behavior.
- Supervising inmates in the performance of various jobs; modeling appropriate, pre‑social behavior.
- Assisting in a variety of searches, including checking for contraband items.
- Observing daily inmate living, programming, work areas, and the perimeter fence line; reporting security violations.
- Conducting daily scheduled counts of inmates.
- Assuming duties of housing control centers, central control centers, and inmate living areas that monitor inmate movements.
- Becoming familiar with inmate names and characteristics for easier identification of inmate movements and infractions.
- Assisting in restraining unruly inmates, utilizing the minimum amount of force required.
- Assisting in transporting inmates within and off institution boundaries, including inter‑ and intra‑state predetermined destinations.
- Assisting in processing newly incarcerated inmates or the processing of released inmates.
- Attending required training to perform duties at an acceptable level.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Must not have a felony or domestic violence conviction.
- Must complete an initial training period and be awarded Correctional Officer Certification by the Wyoming Peace Officers Standards & Training (POST) Commission within one year of initial appointment.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 0–1 year of progressive work experience in a correctional setting.
- Must successfully pass a background/reference check, medical and psychological evaluation, physical fitness exam, urinalysis drug screen, and other pre‑employment testing.
- Must have ability to work overtime as required and to work on any shift, holidays, and weekends.
- Drug‑free workplace; all staff are subject to drug testing while employed.
- Tobacco‑free workplace; prohibits smoking materials, smokeless tobacco, or tobacco substitutes on or into WDOC facilities and grounds.
