About the roleWe are currently seeking a Tire Technician to join our maintenance team at the North Antelope Rochelle Mine (NARM). NARM is the USA's largest surface coal mine, located in Wright, Wyoming, and produces high‑quality thermal coal that is loaded onto haul trucks and shipped by rail. The mine has approximately 465 million tons of coal reserves.
NARM enjoys a safety‑first culture and strives for zero recordable MSHA injuries and incidents. The surrounding Campbell County community in Wright offers outstanding schools and recreational opportunities.
Job SummaryIn this role as a Tire Technician
, you will play a vital role on the maintenance team by ensuring that equipment is operationally ready and meets production targets. You will deliver a safety‑focused, high‑quality service to Peabody's mining equipment, helping to keep our fleet running smoothly.
- Visibly support and champion Peabody's Mission and Values.
- Act in accordance with and adhere to the Safety as a Way of Life Management System.
- Inspect work area and plant for hazards, damage, and defects.
- Perform tire service and maintenance for large earthmoving off‑road tires, including dismounting, mounting, and repairing tires, ensuring they meet safety and load requirements.
- Operate heavy‑duty tire servicing equipment and tools, demonstrating expertise in maintaining and repairing mining tire equipment.
- Work in close collaboration with mine maintenance staff, ensuring operational efficiency.
- Ensure tire inspections and maintenance programs are consistently performed on‑site, maintaining the highest service standards.
- Conduct tire inspections, equipment checks, and maintenance tasks.
- Perform tread depth measurements, pressure readings, and inspections on all heavy earthmoving mobile equipment.
- Train other personnel or apprentices (if required).
- Ensure activities comply with safety, environmental, and statutory requirements.
- Other duties as assigned by the company.
- Must have the ability to stand for up to 4 hours per shift.
- Must have the ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles.
- Must be able to work from elevated positions, walk or climb stairs/steps, and climb on/off equipment and ladders, bend at the knees, and be flexible enough to work in awkward positions.
- Must wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by company policy and MSHA.
- Must perform repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle) and have rapid reflex movements of the arms/legs with good hand‑to‑eye coordination.
- Must lift a minimum of 75 pounds.
- Must perform repeated and repetitive motions consistent with the tire industry.
- Must work in extreme conditions, including changing weather, dust, mud, varying noise levels, varying light conditions, and confined work areas.
- Must work various shifts, including days, evenings, nights, rotating schedules, weekends, and holidays.
- At least two years of experience as a tire technician (preferably within the mining sector).
- Ability to operate and maintain tire manipulators, forklifts, and service trucks.
- If you do not have a TIA (Tire Industry Association) 200 Level Online Training Certificate, you are expected to obtain one within 6 months of starting (Peabody will cover training costs).
- If you have a TIA 200 Level Online Training Certificate, you are expected to obtain a TIA ETS
200 Mine Spec Hands‑On Training course within 6 months of starting (Peabody will cover training costs).
- Trade Certificate preferred.
