Role Overview
Johnson Controls Inc. is seeking forward-thinking HVAC Mechanics to support its fast-growing HVAC business in North America. The role involves working with light-commercial and heavy-commercial teams, providing maintenance, repair, and replacement services on commercial heating and cooling systems, and partnering with journeymen for complex equipment repair.
Key Responsibilities- Perform maintenance, repair, and replacement services on commercial HVACR systems.
- Repair centrifugal compressors, steam turbines, absorption machines, open‑drive screw chillers, and ammonia/hydrocarbon systems.
- Provide solutions and outcomes at the time of commissioning and aftermarket service.
- Offer recommendations, upsell opportunities, and provide accurate quotes to customers.
- Collaborate with local market mechanics, servicemen, and apprentices, and provide on‑the‑job training when required.
- Use vibration equipment, mechanical shaft alignment tools, and other diagnostic tools to troubleshoot drive lines.
- Travel 10–20% to support branch customers for troubleshooting, installation, and repair activities.
- Member or willing to join the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry (AFL-CIO).
- At least twelve (12) years of commercial/industrial mechanical troubleshooting and repair experience in HVAC, industrial petro‑chemical, or data‑center environments.
- Experience with rooftop units, pumps, fans, towers, boilers, chillers, compressors, and plumbing.
- Ability to lead large complex repairs, jobs, or retrofits.
- Proficiency in repairing centrifugal compressors, steam turbines, screw chillers, and ammonia/hydrocarbon system components.
- Maintenance of ammonia and hydrocarbon safety training certification.
- Capability to install complete HVAC systems (chillers, rooftop units, plumbing, and supporting mechanical systems).
- Comfortable using dial indicators, laser tools, and vibration equipment for alignment and diagnostics.
- Valid EPA refrigerants license, applicable state or local licensing, and a valid driver’s license.
- Ability to pass a knowledge examination to assess proficiencies and a written communication skill to explain problems, causes, and corrective actions to customers.

- Prioritize safety in all aspects of work.
- Hourly rate: $52, as determined by the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) rate sheet.
- Benefits provided through a local labor union in alignment with a collective bargaining agreement.
