Position Summary
The Foreman for Mechanical will manage multiple crews in installing, assembling, dismantling, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing machinery for an industrial new construction plant. They will work on the construction of machinery involved in industrial construction.
Responsibilities- Supervises and coordinates activity with craft workers to ensure that work is done safely, correctly, and in a timely manner.
- Uses knowledge and understanding of the technical installation requirements for the work under his/her supervision, including drawings, specifications, procedures, and codes.
- Follows direction from supervisor.
- Works with industry-specific and highly complex precision machines such as ball mills, , lube coil skids, turbines, conveyors, generators, hydraulic systems, pumps, gears, bearings, compressors, and others.
- Plans, inspects, verifies, and documents scope of work.
- Uses precision leveling and alignment tools—calipers, squares, micrometers, optical instruments—to measure angles, material thickness, and small distances.
- Fits bearings, aligns gears and wheels, attaches motors, and connects belts according to manufacturer’s blueprints and drawings.
- Dismantles machines using hammers, wrenches, crowbars, and other hand tools.
- Assembles and installs equipment such as shafting, conveyors, and tram rails.
- Bolts, welds, rivets, and fastens machinery to foundations or other structures using hand tools and power tools.
- Operates engine lathes, grinders, and files.
- Fabricates and installs parts, equipment, and machinery by measuring, cutting, drilling, and/or welding.
- Turns machine parts to dimensional specifications.
- Unloads, inspects, moves, and sets equipment into position using cranes, hoists, dollies, rollers, and trucks.
- Uses rigging and hoisting devices such as chokers, chain falls, and come-alongs to move equipment and materials into place.
- Conducts preventative maintenance such as lubrication and the repair of worn parts.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Experience with industrial machinery installation, repair, and maintenance of various machines and equipment.
- Ability to read blueprints, schematic drawings, and engineering specifications.
- Skill in interpreting technical manuals to determine work procedures.
- Proficiency using industrial hand tools and power tools.
- All Journeyman Precision Millwright hand tools (tool list provided).
- Minimum 4–5 years of industrial construction/maintenance experience.
- Reliable transportation and availability to work up to seven days as needed.
- Demonstrated industrial construction/maintenance history.
- Knowledge of hand tools, power tools, and layout tools such as lasers, ultrasonic measuring and alignment tools, plumb bobs, cutting torches, welding machines, hydraulic torch wrenches, hydraulic stud tensioners, soldering guns, and metal‑working equipment, including lathes and grinding machines.
- Knowledge of industrial machinery and equipment.
- Understanding of load properties of cables, ropes, hoists, and chains.
- Ability to use certified hand signals.
- Organization and time‑management skills.
- Problem‑solving abilities.
- Aptitude and manual dexterity.
- Knowledge of math concepts, geometry, and layout.
- Leadership ability to guide others and provide detailed instructions.
- Good reading comprehension.
- Team player and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Good communication skills with co‑workers and supervisors.

- Adherence to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, sitting, and lifting.
- Capability to speak and hear for communication.
- Use of arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull objects, materials, controls, and tools.
- Ability to pick up, lift, carry, and move up to 50 lbs.
- Work at heights, climb ladders and stairways, and sometimes work off platforms/scaffolding using appropriate fall protection.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions (heat, rain, cold, wind) while wearing appropriate PPE.
- Wearing personal protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses or goggles, ear plugs, masks or respirators, hi‑vis vests, leather gloves, and steel‑toed work boots.
- Former Zachry employee.
- Formal education or certification in construction, technical, or trade school (e.g., NCCER Certification).
- Basic computer proficiency.
