The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is seeking a full-time Telecom Senior Technician located in Basin, Wyoming. This position is critical for telecommunication system repair, installation, and maintenance of mobile or stationary radio transmitting, broadcasting, and receiving equipment, and two-way public safety radio communications systems, mobile broadband communications, and radio equipment in service and emergency vehicles.

Essential Functions- Performs installation, troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, and inspections of public safety agency telecommunications mobile radio systems and related electronic equipment in state-owned vehicles, buildings, and mountaintop repeater sites.
- Uses computer software applications to troubleshoot and program telecom devices.
- Installs and maintains devices that interface to commercial broadband services.
- Installs and maintains CAT5e and CAT6 wiring, and tests circuits.
- Tests fiber circuits connecting to radio sites and connects fiber endpoints.
- Assists with installation and integration of communications systems serving roadside Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) components and Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) stations; provides ongoing maintenance.
- Serves as a 24/7 "Subject to call Technician" and serves on a district emergency on‑call rotation, responding to assist with outage repairs.
- Performs high priority repairs based on outage reports and automated network performance monitoring; climbs towers up to 200 feet, and operates snowcats and ATVs.
- Trains local radio system users in the operation of advanced telecommunications equipment.
Preference may be given to those with 3 to 5 years of progressive work experience in the maintenance and repair of electronic devices or telecommunications systems or an Associate's Degree in Electronics. Ideal candidates will have or be willing to obtain certifications in CPR/First aid, FCC GROL, WYDOT Tier I & Tier II certified climber. Agency requires the successful applicant to possess a FCC Radiotelephone Operator's license or equivalent certification and a valid driver's license.
Knowledge- Effective written and verbal communication skills: prepare records, reports, correspondence and technical drawings, clearly explain technical issues to non-technical persons.
- Broad knowledge of electricity, electronics, information technology, and telecommunications, including telephony, data communications, integration of voice and data communication systems with computers and electronic devices, transmission media, tower structures, vehicle electrical system and building/facility services.
- Knowledge of electronic theory, FCC rules & regulations, and critical thinking skills necessary to troubleshoot complex advanced electronic equipment and systems.
- Ability to use specialized voice and data telecommunication test systems and equipment, analyze performance results, interpret/use specification sheets and technical diagrams/manuals.
- Ability to use a wide range of basic hand and power tools in all work settings.
Education: Associate's Degree in Electronics.
Experience: 0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Technical Operations) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Technical Operations Technician II.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Class A Commercial Driver's License.
Physical Working Conditions- May work in adverse weather conditions, including rain, snow, cold, heat, and hail.
- May work at heights of 200 feet and below.
- May work on a ladder.
- Frequent use of manual and powered hand tools.
- Daily use of motor vehicles and heavy equipment.
- Frequent exposure to hazardous materials.
- Exposure to high-speed traffic and heavy construction equipment.
- May work alone.
- Requires a significant amount of travel throughout the District in adverse conditions.
- Physical Ability:
Bending, stooping, lifting fifty (50) pounds; safely lifting and moving necessary materials from one point to another; ability to stand or stand for long periods of time; ability to walk long periods of time on even and uneven ground.
