Job RoleInstallation Laborer (often referred to as a Sign Crew Laborer or Traffic Control Laborer) provides the physical effort required to execute project plans on‑site. This is an entry‑level role that focuses on manual tasks, equipment setup, and site safety.
Work Schedule & Travel- Hours:
Typical work weeks range from 40–60 hours, with potential for more during peak project seasons. - Weekend Work:
Not typical but may be required based on project deadlines or emergency repairs. - Travel:
Statewide travel (1–5 days per week). Candidates must be comfortable staying overnight when necessary.
- Material Handling:
Loads, unloads, and moves building materials (such as signs, cones, and barricades) and tools to appropriate locations on‑site. - Installation:
Assist in the physical installation of products, including digging postholes by hand, operating jackhammer to install bases, using hand tools to build signs, and assembling/setting up traffic control devices. - Traffic Control Support:
Distribute signs and markers in designated patterns and may act as a flagger to stop or direct traffic flow safely around the work crew.
- Age:
Must be at least 18 years old. - Driver’s License:
Valid and clean driver's license required for traveling to job sites. - Education:
High school diploma preferred but often not strictly required for entry‑level positions.
- Manual Labor & Stamina:
Perform heavy manual tasks for long periods, including lifting, carrying, and pushing materials up to 90 lbs. - Environment:
Outdoor work in all weather conditions. - Tool Proficiency:
Use hand and power tools such as drills, saws, pneumatic post drivers, and jackhammers. - Material Handling:
Load/unload materials safely and keep work sites organized. - Hazard Awareness:
Alertness to moving traffic and mechanical equipment. - Plan Interpretation:
Basic ability to read project maps, blueprints, or technical instructions. - Communication:
Clear verbal communication with crew members and the public. - Reliability & Punctuality:
On time for early starts. - Teamwork:
Take direction from a foreman and work collaboratively under pressure.
