The Prevention Educator position exists to assist the Anew Center Program Director for the Domestic Violence/Rape Crisis Program in providing school based primary prevention education, community education, professional training, support groups, and outreach to promote prevention of sexual assault, rape, and domestic violence throughout Chautauqua County, along with providing direct services to victims upon request.
Responsibilities- Read and follow The Salvation Army Employee Handbook and Anew Center policy and procedure manual; request supervisory direction as needed.
- Develop and implement rape, sexual assault, and domestic violence education and prevention programs to students in schools and universities throughout Chautauqua County.
- Develop and implement rape, sexual assault, and domestic violence education and support groups throughout Chautauqua County.
- Deliver educational programs to the community to increase awareness of the issues of rape, sexual assault, domestic violence, and possible preventative measures.
- Attend various outreach and speaking engagements as assigned.
- Represent Coalition activities, participating in subcommittee meetings for Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Awareness months; assist in executing The Salvation Army activities throughout the year.
- Maintain accurate records, submit reports and statistics as required by The Salvation Army, Department of Health and Human Services, NYS Division of Criminal Justice, and other funders.
- Collaborate with DSS, hospitals, law enforcement, and other human service agencies to ensure comprehensive services.
- Serve on the Response Team Schedule, providing shelter coverage, advocacies, debriefing, phone calls, and other critical situations during coverage dates (weekdays, weekends, holidays).
- Provide crisis intervention, accompaniment and advocacy services for legal, medical, educational, personal, financial, housing, and other issues as directed.
- Comply with all fire and safety procedures.
- Act as a mandated reporter and report all incidents of suspected child abuse/neglect to child protection services mandatory reporter hotline.
- Meet regularly with the Prevention Education Coordinator and keep the Coordinator informed of all program and service information.
- Attend inter-agency, coalition, and community meetings when appropriate.
- Be prepared for additional responsibilities as directed by the immediate supervisor, Program Director, or Commanding Officers.
Special Skills, Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Complete sexual assault training to be certified rape crisis counselor; attend a minimum of 10 additional training hours per year.
- Have computer/typing skills to complete statistics, maintain case files, and correspond via email.
- Be able to drive a 12-passenger vehicle.
