Variable Part-time positions:
Available shifts include weekdays, weekends, occasional overnights, and holiday coverage as needed.
Pay: $21.42 per hour; $2.50 per hour shift differential for hours worked between 11pm-7am

About the job:DAIS Shelter Advocates work to ensure that victims of intimate partner violence and their children staying in our emergency shelter have a safe, dignified, and empowered experience as they work to address the impact of intimate partner violence in their lives. Shelter Advocates utilize trauma‑informed care principles and the empowerment philosophy of advocacy to support DAIS clients. They help maintain cleanliness and order in shelter common areas while engaging residents, clean and prepare rooms for new residents, assist with daily living needs, conduct shelter intakes and orientations, and communicate communal living guidelines.
Qualifications:- High school graduate or equivalent required
- Two years of experience working with trauma survivors required
- Experience in a residential setting & crisis intervention strongly preferred
- Experience in crisis intervention and knowledge of domestic violence issues preferred
- Excellent computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office preferred
- Bilingual abilities a plus
- Maintain cleanliness in shelter common areas, including the shelter kitchen; engage clients in cleaning efforts
- Clean and prepare rooms for client intakes
- Assist clients with daily living needs
- Apply trauma‑informed care principles and empowerment advocacy to support clients
- Conduct shelter intakes and orientations
- Support other client and crisis services as needed, including providing help line coverage, monitoring security cameras, and granting building access to shelter clients
- Communicate shelter rules and community living guidelines to clients and address difficulties or problems that arise
- Maintain professionalism and professional boundaries with clients and staff
- Require ability to ascend/descend stairs and move efficiently to perform physical tasks and address emergencies
- Require monitoring and observing clients and their children within the facility and communicating information in person and over the telephone to address resident inquiries and needs
- Regular exposure to cleaning products, chemicals, and solvents
- Occasional work in outdoor weather conditions
- Require moving or transporting supplies or equipment up to 30 pounds unassisted while ascending/descending stairs
