Air Methods, a leader in air medical transport, is recruiting a Regional Relief Pilot (RW) for the Midwest region. Eligible candidates must reside in KY, OH, IL, IN, MO, KS, or AR. The position offers a $40,000 annual stipend and a $40,000 sign‑on bonus.

The Regional Relief Pilot will cover bases in the Midwest region, ensuring aircraft and weather conditions are safe for medical crew and patient transport to receiving hospitals. The pilot must comply with Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR), the Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM), General Operations Manual (GOM), and Air Methods policies.
Responsibilities- Operate Air Methods aircraft safely and legally.
- Complete pre‑flight checks and sign off the Daily Flight Log.
- Hold final authority over aircraft operations and safety.
- Maintain knowledge of aircraft and medical systems, ensuring flight crews are familiar and comfortable.
- Complete required documentation.
- Conduct detailed flight planning on short notice to exacting standards.
- Participate in Air Methods meetings, activities, projects, committees, and community outreach.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
- Regular scheduled attendance for a non‑standard schedule.
- Travel approximately 50% of the time.
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
QualificationsThe following qualifications are required:
Education & Experience- Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two‑year college or technical school plus 2–5 years of related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Maximum operating weight of 250 pounds and age under 70 years.
- Recent flight experience in category flight for a commercial operator or military within the last 24 months.
- Positive interpersonal relationships with EMS representatives, hospitals, the public, and maintaining a professional work environment.
- 2000 total flight hours, including a minimum of 1500 category flight hours.
- 1000 hours as PIC in category.
- 500 hours of rotor‑wing turbine time.
- 200 hours of cross‑country flight time, at least 50 of which were at night.
- 100 hours unaided night as PIC (50 hours of unaided can be substituted for by 100 hours of NVG time, but cannot be reduced below 50 hours of unaided time).
- 50 hours total actual or hood instrument time in flight and in category (simulator time does not count); for a RW candidate who is FW rated, 100+ hours of FW actual or hood instrument time can reduce the required instrument time to 25 hours.
- 2500 total flight hours with at least 2000 hours in category.
- 1000 hours PIC in category.
- 500 hours of rotor‑wing turbine time.
- 500 hours of cross‑country flight time, including 100 hours of night flight time.
- 75 hours of actual or simulated instrument time, at least 50 of which were in flight in an aircraft, including 20 hours in actual instrument conditions in category.
- Commercial & Instrument Rating for the required category and class of aircraft.
- ATP rating that meets the requirements.
- First or Second Class FAA Medical certificate required.
